Has anyone else noticed?

Little girl, kidnapped, experimented on, modified DNA, made into a weapon... River Song or River Tam? (Firefly)

Of course! Luckily River (Song) is a lot less mentally borked than River (Tam).

Avon is cool! I just re-watched all B7 again.

Avon: Of all the things I have known myself to be, I never recognized the fool.

The Doctor's 'er indoors is wont to do that too.

If Moffat likes Firefly, you can't hate him.

And the most important person in River Tam's life was a Doctor....

And in the film she ended up doing something heroic to save him. Though she survived.

Joss Whedon is a massive fan of blake's 7 by Terry Nation who invented the Daleks(he wanted to include them in it which would have made it part of the whoniverse).
A lot of stuff from firefly is an homage to it.

Now the circle is complete!

I assume Rockne O'Bannon was also a fan of B7. Commandant Cleavage(Grayza) = Serverlan, Scorpius = Travis, Pilot = Zen, Moya = Liberator etc.

And of course Canton of DW is Badger of Firefly

I do wish it was more acceptable to admit liking B7.

Sky were going to do a re-boot but abandoned the idea a couple of years ago.

There is one major difference.... Doctor Who just got confirmed for another series.
for DW
for Firefly
EDIT: for Farscape too.

They should get Summer Glau to play the younger incarnation of River Song/Melody Pond!

Though that would probably signal Doctor Who getting cancelled (sorry Summer, I love you really!)

Just so long as she doesn't try that cockney accent again.

She could have played Ganger Jennifer, stuck to the roof in that corridor.

No one would have escaped the monastery alive though...

Song of the River

by W R Hearst

The snow melts on the mountain.
And the water runs down to the spring,
And the spring in a turbulent fountain,
With a song of youth to sing,
Runs down to the riotous river,
And the river flows to the sea,
And the water again
Goes back in rain
To the hills where it used to be.
And I wonder if life's deep mystery
Isn't much like the rain and the snow
Returning through all eternity
To the places it used to know.
For life was born on the lofty heights
And flows in a laughing stream,
To the river below
Whose onward flow
Ends in a peaceful dream.
And so at last,
When our life has passed
And the river has run its course,
It again goes back,
O'er the selfsame track,
To the mountain which was its source.
So why prize life
Or why fear death,
Or dread what is to be?
The river ran
Its allotted span
Till it reached the silent sea.
Then the water harked back
To the mountain-top
To begin its course once more.
So we shall run
The course begun
Till we reach the silent shore.
Then revisit earth
In a pure rebirth
From the heart of the virgin snow.
So don't ask why
We live or die,
Or whither, or when we go,
Or wonder about the mysteries
That only God may know.

What's wrong with liking B7? I loved it at the time (except for the last series) and could easily watch it again if I could just find the time. I went on set once and it was magic, me on the Liberator flightdeck
