Prequel outtake??

The prequel on the BBC website last week - where Dorien sells a code extracted from a troopers brain to the baddies - was not in the episode as broadcast. Is it common to use outtakes in this way??

Um...the point of a Prequel is that it shows something that happens PRIOR to the episode. So it was never going to be there

If it was Preview, THEN it would have been in the ep

It does, it does both. This series it seems that it shows two previews with most episodes and occasional prequels (3 episodes)

Episode 1
Episode 3
Episode 7

It was actually mentioned in an interview with the actor playing Dorium that Steven wrote that scene as a deliberate 'extra' while they were filming the real scenes. I think in a way it was created to explain why Dorium describes the Headless Monks as old customers, and his comments on the security software in the episode - but they're not really required in order to enjoy the episode.
