Ok, here's an earth shattering theory about River, I'll spoiler it just in case but it is pure speculation.

Spoiler
The best man River ever knew was not the Doctor at all and is acctually the "Lone Centurion" or Rory as Amy and the Doctor and River know him. I have heard rumors that Rory might turn evil. What if River kills Rory to stop him turning evil and preserve his good memory and the Doctor forgives her for it cause she was trying to help Rory in the long run. Not sure where that puts Amy but I'll leave that to discussion.

So, what do ya all think? Do I get my coat and run or should I stay?

I think theories shouldn't be spoilered if they contain no actual confirmed spoilers.

and I also think I'd agree with that theory, it's been suggested a few times, and does seem quite likely.

I agree with that. I think she killed either Rory, the Doctor or maybe she and the doctor had a son who she killed (long shot and not very likely I know!) My bet is Rory

Agreed. I also agree with the OP's theory!

I think she could kill Rory (poor Rory...again). After all, he is her father so he would be up there as one of the best men she'd ever know

I have a feeling it's Rory. The Doctor is supposed to be the obvious choice, since we know she kills someone, then The Doctor gets killed.

I'm strict on no spoilers, but have no problem with theories based purely on transmitted details.

I agree it could easily be Rory, especially given her long discussion of the Doctor's flaws on Saturday. But, given that it put her in jail, why would she kill him on purpose?

I have a theory that people should read around the forums a bit before suggesting their "new" theory.

my theory is that she killed the doctor. she is in prison untill she can put it right my going back in time and stopping it from happening, by making sure that Melody/herself, is saved from being raised as a soldier of destruction.

probably not exactly like that. but something along those lines.

I expalin that in the theory, Rory goes evil and so to protect his good memory she kills him before he can do much and kills "a good man" to stop Amy and the rest of the universe thinking bad of Rory. Though the good intention was there, she still murdered someone and so deserved jail by law. She only stays there cause she escapes often enough to meet the Doctor so that everything her future self experiences happens. The main down fall of the theory comes on the reliance that Rory does turn evil. Althoughwise it just falls down on the very reason you picked up.

I think it's pretty likely that the "good man" that River Song kills is not the Dr - I would hope the Moff would have something a little more surprising than that in store for us.

On the other hand, will rory dying AGAIN have any impact on us at all...??

Maybe shes a Nazi and accidently kills Hitler in the next episode?

ehr .. somebody please correct me if I missed something here but ..

River is Amy's daughter.
Amy's daughter is the little girl at the orphanage otherwise why would there be a photo of Amy with the baby there?
The girl at the orphanage became the girl in the astronaut suit.
The girl in the astronaut suit killed the 1100 year old Doctor.

There are gaps but if I'm right River has Already killed the best man she ever knew.

And every other species seems to have time travel these days so it would be easy to get imprisoned in the fifty second century for killing someone in1969

The little girl broke out of the astronaut suit. It's unlikely she's the one in the suit who shoots the Doctor. She's back in 1969 regenerating.

Thanx man had a feeling I'd missed something

I guess it depends on the writers' faith in fans intelligence. Would they think it was surprising, now, if it was indeed the Doctor that River killed? Or is it what they want us to think before "surprising" us with a bit of patricide?
Haha, wouldn't that be something, if it was Hitler... I'm sure the "best man I ever knew" would cause a bit too much outrage among viewers, though!

And the fact that the own daughter killing her father would have an impact on most people. No doubt it'd be emotional, like a inner battle of her emotions knowing she has to kill him but finding it hard to.

Why would Rory "go bad"? Seems very out of keeping with Rory or Steven Moffat's style...

Well that was a good resume of what I was thinking too.

C'mon, be fair... It's not like this hasn't already been discussed many many times in this forum. The only difference is Ruffneck did it inside your thread, whereas you did it alongside other threads!

Maybe he started a separate thread and the mods moved it?
