Have Orange Retentions got stricter or is it still luck of the draw?
Bit of a ramble but I spoke to Orange retentions on Friday to see if they would match a deal I'd seen on O2 for new customers (at the time it was Samsung Galaxy S2 for free, £18pcm over 24 months).
Currently I'm only on a £15pcm tariff with Orange (used to pay a lot more up until recently) and the best they could offer me, when taking into account whatever loyalty bonus I currently have (been with them for over 9 years) was the £15pcm tariff but Samsung Galaxy S2 for £192. The chap I spoke to on Friday gave me some spiel regarding the money I'd built up being taken off the cost of the phone etc. Anyway I said I'd follow up on the O2 deal and be phoning for my PAC in due course as my contract doesn;t actually finish until July 28th. Anyway, didn't chase up anything over the weekend due to work and today the £18pcm deal with O2 is off the table but instead it's £24pcm with more minutes PLUS the Galaxy S2 for free. So, again, I phoned Orange to see if they'll match that, thinking that £192 divided over 24 months is £8 extra to my £15 tariff so I could deal with paying that and staying on Orange but the woman I spoke to today just got flustered and said I could only have the phone for free if I paid £35 a month, £11 more than on O2... Then she said I could still take out the £15 tariff but I reminded her that would still involve me paying £192 for the phone when I've been offered it for free on O2 which she didn't seem to get at first... So, anyway, looks like I'll be leaving Orange after 9 years of good service but Orange Retentions never used to be so flaky about what could be offered so I just wondered if strategies have changed or does it still depend on who you speak to. There's no point in me remaining loyal if they're not going to repay that loyalty. Might sound mercenary but thems the breaks! ![]() Anyone else have any recent experience with them? |

Where have you seen this as the cheapest option on the O2 site with the phone free is £32 pcm.

Yep a similar experience for my wife.
Last month was upgrade time for her, a loyal Orange customer for over 7 years. I talked her into getting a Desire S, and armed her with the info and amount she'd be paying if she went for a cashback online deal. She went to Orange customer service with this and reminded them of all the extra minutes she has paid out over the years. Sadly they did not busge and she requested her PAC code. This time last year I got a great deal with T-Mobile on a Desire, who bettered what I could find in online deals ensuring my continuing contract with them. My wife has now joined me on T-Mobile and like you, wonders what has become of the benefits of customer loyalty. I think Orange and T-Mobile are now of the same company now though? Either way, forget customer loyalty, and follow the better deals! |

The £24 pcm on O2 was initially found on e2Save but I've had it matched by an O2 rep. I've also just found a deal for the phone for free on a £26pcm tariff on 3 via Techradar's "deal of the day" on the Galaxy S2 review page. Quote:

I've been with Orange for over 10 years. I asked them for my PAC code last month when they told me they weren't going to supply the Galaxy S2. After they finally announced they would I decided to stay with them. I thought the PAC code runs out after 30 days if not used, but on the 30th day, Orange disconnected my phone and closed my account. PAC code was never used.
Be careful when asking for your PAC code from Orange! Must be some OFGEM rules about doing this. |

Loyalty offers are dwindling too now, due to market saturation. For every person who leaves because they don't get a discount, one person joins and pays full whack.
The networks have finally twigged. |

As long as my new phone is free and i save 2.50 or whatever it is, i'm happy. If they try to shove me in a 24 month contract i will leave though! Another pet hate of mine is Orange branded phones so will probably not get another phone off Orange direct unless they can get me an unbranded one.

I never had an issue with Orange branding, though. Think I'm the only person who didn't
