what is in your diet that you choose to eat either exclusively or mainly because you feel it's good for you?

Seaweed and celery. I actually hate celery, but have recently started eating it because of the health benefits, and also the fact that it is has something like 2 calories per stick. Not bad!

I generally include a lot more salad and veg into my diet these days.

There is nothing I eat because it's "healthy" that I do not enjoy to eat full stop though!

I thought celery resulted in minus calories because it takes more to digest it than it contains.

I've had a bit of a funny tummy recently and have found that yakult really helps. it may be all psychosomatic but if it works...who cars.

Great responses so far.
As I get older I try and be more conscious of my diet. So I have porridge for breakfast on every weekday, at work.
I also am drinking 2 x 1.5l bottles of water which I really believe is keeping colds at bay.
One other habit is eating an apple every day.

I have to have veg every day. I cannot have a meal without any. I also drink water a few times a day. I just need to replace my fizzy drinks with it! I gave up bread and pasta a year ago. That stuff is evil.

I am of the same mind as you, I wouldn't eat something I don't enjoy just because of its "healthy" badge.

Although there are many healthy food stuffs that I do enjoy and I tend to get my fruit and salad 3 a day (possibly 5 but I think 3 would be more likely) but if someone told me that peas were the healthiest of all food I would still give them a miss as I don't like them.

there is something to be said though for educating your palate.
My first choice (if I think with my stomach) would be to go for a really tasty brekkie, either a visit to my work canteen or some sweet cereal.
So to regularly eat porridge (with soya milk and no sweetner) is boring in comparison but something I've come to enjoy.
I have not 'banned' myself from eating any food, but I am making informed choices which has meant I avoid some of the foods I love to eat.

I make sure that I drink a 2 litre bottle of water a day and I eat salad with 90% of my meals even if the meal itself isn't that healthy!

Lots of raw vegetables and fruit. I used to cook my veggies, but now I eat them like nature intended - raw.

I also love avocados.

Fatty red and white meat, poultry (with skin), butter, lard, coconut oil, eggs, fish, shellfish, cream, cheese, unpasteurised milk, and green leafy veg. Not because I feel it's good for me, but because I know it is.

I think your right Libertarian.
There is no doubt that the foods you list have important individual nutrients. I eat all of them. But I am interested in what people eat as a conscious addition to their "normal" fare.
I do not have an issue with any food but want to be inspired to continue eating well.
Cider vineger I have found to be an amazing tonic. I drink it and feel instantly more awake, and somehow brighter.
Keep addding to this thread the foods that you eat for your healths sake, as I take it you dont eat that list every day.
To coin a phrase, less is more.

I dont really eat much down to health benefits. Breakfast is a major thing for me, really struggle to eat in the morning but know it has to be done! Always try to eat well for breakfast, weetabix and a banana usually.

I try to drink plenty of water a day, usually try for 2 litres.

There's a theory which suggests that the move to cooking food contributed to our evolutionary success as humans. If all you ate was raw food, you'd spend all day chewing to get all of the calories you need, but cooking increased the caloric value of food, which (theoretically) allowed our stomachs to shrink and our brains to increase in size.

To answer the OP; I probably eat more spinach (in the raw, even ) than the average person.

How you do make that then?

2 capfuls (no sweetner) in a glass of water.

It is very bitter/sharp but extremely zingy!! It has helped immensely with my hayfever symptoms, I feel a satisfied feeling that means I am eating slightly less (a good thing) and the briefest of internets searches shows just how beneficial it is for you.

As a conscious addition to normal - coconut oil, at least a tablespoon per day.

I just cannot comprehend that people have to make a conscious decission to eat healthily or add certain 'healthy' foods to their diet.
I have been dragged up by parents who ate healthy and a mother who cooked fresh food every day with a good variety of vegetables, fruits, nuts, fish, meat, homemade wholemeal bread. We had a choice of drinks - tea or water.

I still eat the same, but drink coffee more often than tea and I drink 1.5 ltr of water.
Do I ever eat convenience or junk food or drink soft drinks ? Of course I do, but it is not part of my daily diet.

Oh, about the cider vinegar, my dad used to make us drink it when we were little and a spoon of honey, every morning.
Talking about 40 odd years ago.
