If I want to listen to someone who has a voice like that I would listen to Katherine Jenkins

at least she knows what the words and emotions to the songs mean and not just sung by rote

She is way ahead of her years but still a child. Her producers seem to be trying to make her into an adult singer - using all the technical jiggery-pokery at their disposal - and that's just wrong.

Katharine Jenkins has never performed an operatic role on the professional stage - and all the performances of individual arias that I have seen by her have been generic at best.

She is not an opera singer - she is a trained singer who happens to sing the occasional operatic aria.

There are many, many, many great opera performers out there - KJ is not one of them.

She is a product - not a great singer

She was miming on BGT.

However, I've seen a video of her singing properly live and she does indeed have a stunning voice for someone so young.

You should watch her performance again as it didn't look like she was miming to me. It's not your normal singing so obviously her mouth isn't going to move the same way it does when you say words.

Sarah Brightman is far better at what she does than Katherine Jenkins is.

As has been said before, there is no way of knowing whether that was spontaneous and not pre-planned and that even that piece that she (supposedly) sang then wasn't pre-recorded and mimed to.

Sarah's voice is really very good, particularly when she was younger though I've seen a 2000's (?) performance of Time to Say Goodbye with Andrea Bocelli and Sarah and its really beautiful and tender
TTSG isn't a song for a child to sing - it's very romantic and sad (though the story of the Italian version is different).

It's so blatantly obvious when long time performers mime, we always know immediately and discuss it on the forums, yet this 11 yr old girl who isn't a pro sings perfectly in sync to the sound we hear and yet people for some reason think she's miming?

Watch the video carefully on youtube or where ever else and give me a spot in her performance where it's obvious that she's miming?

She's 11 years old. If she was miming, it would be extremely obvious imo.

We may not like what the girl is doing with (and maybe TO) her voice. But it does seem to really be coming out of her.

For me, the creepiest part about her isn't her singing anyway. Its the Beauty-Pageant-Content way she answers questions put to her. Ronan seems to have a bit of the same thing going on--parents probably drilled both of these kids mercilessly to know exactly what to say to any questions.

If you think she's a mimer then you have poor listening skills. She's bad at holding her vibrato. yeah I find that uncomfortable too ..it's nice for kids to have manners but it all seems a bit unatural and coached

I'm aware of that and I watched the performance a couple of times. The only concession I will make is that I accept that better breathing technique can be learnt as time goes on.

But if you compare the sound of her voice to that of Nicole Scherzinger, who did sing live, there's a clear difference in sound quality.

Jackie probably mimed to her own recording but, IMO, she still mimed.

Not only were they using different microphones, but Nicole was holding hers right to her mouth and dancing. You can hear all her breaths and pops much more clearly this way obviously. Jackie is stationary and more conscious of her mic control. It's clear she isn't miming from about 20 seconds onwards when she begins the rolls http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oxbLVFmeIU, at 1:30 to 1:42 she takes a sudden breath which produces a pop, rolls and pulls her head away then back again which just happens to match perfectly to what I would expect to hear. If you're still not convinced she falters her note at 3:06 just as the pyro goes off. Probably scared her a little.

In the video from AGT you can hear Jackie's breathing quite clearly, and she's stationary there as well. I heard her breaths in her BGT performance without question, but it was nothing I wouldn't expect from a recording.

That was her singing on BGT and AGT and everywhere else and you can find many of her performances on youtube. Her performance on BGT was one of her best ever, which is why it seemed so flawless.

That is ridiculous and kind of creepy. The reason why you can't hear her breathing as much on BGT is because of the mic quality, that's the result you get with high end mics compared to a tiny headpiece mic that's practically in her mouth.

As i said before, it's so easy to figure out who's miming, so much so that whenever the X Factor is on, it's what we all discuss, knowing immediately when PROFESSIONAL long time singers are miming. It's very obvious and yet here an 11 yr old non-pro girl whose lips move perfectly in sync with the audio we hear is supposed to be miming?!

Seriously, stop focussing on how heavy her breathing is and just watch the video and give me one single point where the audio does not match her lips or even anything else that would suggest she's miming other than some people just saying she's doing so just like people did so on AGT.

It makes zero sense for her to mime. She's not dancing up and down, she can actually sing and has a ridiculously good voice and it's her big moment in the UK, her debut, performing in front of 15 million people to show us her talent; what possible reason could there be for her opting to mime in that moment?!

Not even close to faltering a note or any note. I dont know what you are hearing, maybe a different clip. She was dead on the whole time. You are overanalyzing.

Why ?. Listening for breaths is pretty much the main way you can tell if a person is singing live or not as far as i'm aware.


Look back at the video posted from AGT then where she was singing live. Same setup, same situation - stationary with a mic on a stand. The difference between that performance and the BGT performance is clearly noticeable.


There could be plenty of reasons - illness, forthcoming singing engagements - opera singers are notoriously paranoid about protecting their voices.


That's what I felt and I watched that particular part about 5 times listening for a slip up.
