There was an article about him in The Word last year. He lives very quietly in the country and probably accepts by now that his tv career is over. He has a family, and I am very glad that the tabloids are not doing one of their hate campaigns on him.

I think it's a sad fact of modern showbiz culture that unless an individual is saturated across the media that people presume they have disappeared. It's virtually impossible, and not very desirable, for any sane individual to be high profile for any extended period. For people with a talent, it is possible to keep on working without needing your PR people to keep the Daily Star updated with your every move. I'd even argue that a lot of famous names who have known high profile fame deliberately pick lower key jobs to get away from it.

I don't know why people are still shocked that people from Pop Idol/X Factor aren't in the papers as much as they were when the show aired or immediately afterwards. Year after year there is a presumption from the unimaginative that the winner has disappeared, when in fact they are simply in a recording studio.

The fact that someone can list Joe as having disappeared on the very week he has been on prime time tv with plenty of press says it all.

To be fair, Will has been low profile for a while, and doing a low key drama on Sky will pass most people by, but so what? Similarly for Gareth, although he's starring in a top West End musical and everything that comes with that, including a new cast recording, an appearance at the O2 and top billing in a string of other musical related concerts in substantial venues, most people wouldn't notice unless they are interested in that area of showbiz.

It would be easy to miss Michelle's career if you don't live in Scotland, but she is on tv most days of the week, and has done for a while. She's probably much happier doing what she's doing now, than she was when she was in the full public glare and getting criticised for a presumed sympathy vote that wasn't her fault.

I don't know what to say about Chanelle being lumped in with them. She never did much in the first place, except be famous for the sake of it. However, I thought she'd had a baby. I hope that has brought her enough perspective to realise that she'd be better off focusing her energy on raising her child than posing in her bra and pants.

Do you have a link for this? I've never heard of it and I was a huge Manics fan. Did he ever collect his money the rest of the band set aside for him?

I'm pleased to hear that. I grew up watching his stuff and still have a great deal of residual respect for the guy because of that.

He did two excellent docudramas about Orwell & Wyndham as well which I guess will never be repeated.

On a similar topic, did Pete Townsend's book ever come out?
