Does the location appear depending on the mast location?

I work in a large town (Wrexham) somedays when im sitting in work it shows location as 'Wrexham', then sometimes it swops to other names of locations which are in the town (very close by - few mins away) from looking at the O2 coverage map they appear to be the locations of the masts in the town centre. I sit in the same desk all day everydayin the same place.
aslo quite often im getting 'current location' and no name ??

Today its showing a location which noone who i work with from Wrexham knows where it is, after some investigation appears to be a small piece of land in the town centre - again where a mast is located.

You've answered your own question.

Weirdly I get Whiteabbey at home, when whiteabbey is about 5 minutes away. At work it changes to Newtownabbey... Whiteabbey is in Newtownabbey, as is where I live & work. I'd be happy if it just stayed at Newtownabbey.

Mine usually shows my location as the nearest weather survey station which is about 9 miles away from my house.

I went over to Solihul the other weekend, and on arrival the weather was showing Coventry. I had passed that way, but updating it didn't correct it.
I went outside and let the GPS find my location and it got it correct.
When I'm at home it thinks I'm in Holbeach which is about 8 miles away.

I'm guessing if you enable wifi all the time, it'll use known wifi hotspot MAC addresses gathered from the street view cars to locate you too.

Wrexham would be just fine instead of the other palces which are 2 mins away . Someone on vodafone sitting by with me with a htc just gets 'wrexham'.

Also why am i getting current location - not place name sometimes

Not that confusing. If there are several cell towers near by your phone can easily hop from one to the other depending on how busy they are. That after all is the way the network is designed to work

And if they all identify themselves differently then you will appear to have moved even though you are sitting still.

What was the location?
Anyway you are lucky, I'm on 3 and work on the Wrexham industrial estate and the signal is almost non-existent. It still shows the location as Pentre Broughton, about 8 miles away..

I work in Maidstone, but a few times recently my phone has decided that I'm actually in San Diego or Ohio. I have no idea why this is, and it causes my morning alarm to go off again due to the time synchronising

Mine shows Antrim at home, some 20 miles away by road, but a 5/10 min journey across lough neagh by boat so I presume my signal is coming from the other side of the lough
