Something else I have noticed is that you can now 'dip-in' to non-freesat mode within 15 mins of a freesat recording due.

No I hadn't heard anything like that officially from Humax (actually they have never responded directly to me regarding any of my complaints).
I also forgot to mention that solely using Schedule+Red can increase the chances of lock-ups/hangs if the unit is not put into standby regularly (I don't know if this has been cured with the latest update and I'm not going to bother experimenting to find out).

I've probably used the current and previous firmware equally for the past couple of months since having the HDR and we only ever use Schedule+Red. The box never goes into standby and (so far!) we've not had a lock-up. Can't speak for others though.

You should definitely ensure your box goes into standby overnight so that the software can do some much needed housekeeping. Even more so now that it automatically picks up Freesat tuning changes during this period.

I did reboot it the other day to get the HD channel changes.

Out of interest, what housekeeping does it do in standby mode?
Mine must have a particularly untidy house by now .

Channel scan and thumbnails at 3am AFAIK.

I tried the 'Record Anything' for the first prog to hand in the EPG from GUIDE..
and even then I got the same Guide message..

I have praised the '2Hour' FWD facility of the humax epg before as it DID get me speedily to the afternoon shows and then the evening ones.
The Schedule is useless to me..never used in 2 years..
It covers several pages and has ERROR Entries for repeats daily of unwanted 'Midsommer Murders'...
which dare NOT be deleted otherwise the weekly/forthtnightly show is lost.
I bought the Basic Melody and the Panny reveals that it has a double humped output which causes double movements on some features of the TV..hence limited in use for the TV itself..and such tiny buttons..BUT
The GUIDE button on the Melody is ONE of FOUR of the largest buttons with some 45 other smaller buttons.. Does that not suggest something to any one well versed in Logic..like us lot.. let alone the average punter?
Now my new Panny is oft ctiticised for the lousy EPG as it's BRILL at most other aspects..BUT..
I can press GUIDE and then record anything immediately for the future in the EPG..let alone check the evening viewing..
AND not only that I can Point the Panny Remote at the ceiling and then use the 'Info' button with left hand and 'Move curser' with right hand..Excellent method with Bi-focals..
I did an OTA UD and I can now hardly believe that my Modus Operandi is so unique..
with 'Guide' being one of the most used keys on the Remote ..
that NOT ONE of the Beta Testers spotted the complete Invalidation of such a major Button on the Remote..It is equivalently placed in 'Utilisation Symmetry' on the Remote as the MEDIA button which is surely another major button?
In fact on the Panny Remote GUIDE is the Largest Button!
Who would ever use the Humax Guide button now?? and for what purpose? It is almost as though that those i regard as 'True Gurus' are saying that such a Well-Placed.. ?By Design?!.. Button ...

Luckily with a 500G on the USB on the Panny.. I easily programmed a Daily Recording from 1900 to2100 hrs..which covers ITV HD on Freeview at least..
Mind you there is no 1 minute FWD etc..and the 'Folders' concept an the TV is a right PIG.. but the Media Server to the Laptop works a treat..
I only switch the Humax on now for BBC1HD progs with likely good sound.. very sad..

I know it's done by length of time - I think it's housekeeping that does it - it would hardly be a realtime task.

Someone has pointed out elsewhere that you can select a recording by pressing Record rather than OK. This gives similar behaviour to the old firmware in that there is a small delay but it does work. Try it.

Thats a much better way of doing it, thanks. Although that now makes it even dafter that ok doesnt work!

I think it points even more to OK not working being an accidental by product of fixing something else and it could be fixed to work the way it used. to.
