Got in form work today "what's for tea mum?" "stew" great. Minced beef, carrots in gravy with some mashed potatoes on the side. Basic but I love it.

Told others at work and they were like ''so old fashioned'' ''dull" they all went off on one. Everything’s got to have garlic and be marinated in some sauce now for some reason.

I like basic stuff, I like stew. I can't be the only one

I like stew very much. I do make it more in the colder months and would never use mince.

I prefer to make a stew with lamb and my last serveral were variations on pepperpot stew. I put garlic in it

Nothing wrong with a stew, although I'd put a few different herbs and spices in as well as some garlic, and would use cuts of meat rather than mince.

WHY does everything have to F**KING garlic in it these days? It stinks the kitchen out everytime someone cooks something

I personally like it. I like my food to have nice seasonings and depths of flavour.

I can't say my kitchen has ever completely stunk out because of the use of garlic!

I'm a lover of stew particularly so in the winter but I'll have it any time and make it often, maybe once a fortnight or so. I had some over the weekend.

Love stew, nothing nicer than stewed vegetables with mashed potatoes or a cheesy cobbler topping, although I guess that makes it a cobbler rather than a stew.

I love stews and broths too. I throw anything and everything vegetable-wise in the pot along with bite sized cubes of meat, either beef, lamb or ham. I also like to use lentils, barley, etc., but then it gets labelled as 'broth'. The whole family loves it and we usually have it every couple of weeks or so. Suet dumplings are a must.

I make a beautiful stew with casserole beef, oxo cubes, onions, carrots and water. Needs absolutely nothing else, not even salt n pepper. The taste is incredible, well worth the 3 hrs it takes to cook. Never used minced beef though.

Yep I love stew, although like others not with mince. Just throw meat and veg together and slow cook, usually with some wine or beer!

Another yay for stew/casserole/ragout whatever!

My absolute favourites are Lancashire hotpot (which is basically a stew), Irish stew and stewed rabbit.
Basic comforting food, with layers of flavours, especially if you add handfuls of herbs.

That dinner as described in the OP is a favourite of mine, but I wouldn't call it stew. I'd call it mince and spuds.
Stew is made with chunks of meat, to me.

I've just had lamb stew for my tea. It was fiiiiiiiiine.

I do Especially when my mum makes it.

It's real winter food, in my opinion. Nothing nicer than coming home (especially if it's been raining), having a nice hot bath and sitting in front of the fire with a bowl of stew (with dumplings) or homemade soup.

ETA - I like to make stew as well. I love making "big pot" meals

I love stew, although I must confess I am a bit of a seasonal eater and would not even consider making one in this weather. Ham salad for me!

In this neck of the woods though, we'd call what you had savoury mince with potatoes. A stew would be exactly as sallysally described. We're all so different!

All good, along with tagines and many other 'stews' from around the world.

I think the word 'stew' has gone out of fashion but the dish itself is still very popular as a casserole, hotpot, tagine, cobbler etc

I love stew. They are really low effort to make aswell, freeze great, best cooked long and slow.

My favourite are lamb or beef.

Then as some one else said, add spice and you have a curry
