My iPhone 4 wouldn't work abroad.

I've just come back from Egypt and not long after I got there I switched my phone on and waited for it to roam onto one of the 3 or 4 networks that are available in sharm el sheikh. But all I got was "No Service". I tried to connect to a network manually, but again any network I tried came up with the same message.

I have a iPhone 4 on contract with three mobile. My partner who used a pay as you go phone with 02 had no problems what so ever.

At first I thought it was because there were no 3g networks in sharm el sheikh and thought the iphone only worked on 3g networks. But I saw quite a few people in the 2 weeks that were using Egyptian 3g modems in their laptops.

I might be answering my own question to the reason I had no service, but should I have contacted 3 mobile before I went to tell them to switch roaming on my account. Thats the only thing I can think of is that 3 mobile block roaming for security reasons.

Anybody any ideas.

Don't know for sure, but it might be that 3 don't let you roam on an Eqyptian network, maybe they don't partner with a network there?

Have you used roaming with 3 before? Coz, if not, then I think you should've called to ask them to switch it on. That's certainly what I had to do with Orange and T-Mobile in the past, the first time I wanted to use either networks abroad...
