Hi there,

I'm hoping to move house soon and will need to buy a new TV. I'm hopelessly behind with them, not having bought one for almost 10 years.

I'm hoping that people can make some suggestions so that I end up with what will suit me best. Here's my wishlist. There'll be stuff missing that I'd want if I knew about it, I'm sure, so if there's something I should be wanting that I've forgotten to mention then please do tell me

- A really good picture.

- Really good sound. I don't need surround sound but I'd like the quality of sound to be good. Perhaps I need speakers, as I've heard that the newer TVs aren't so good on sound...?

- I'd like to be able to view TV programmes on it that I currently have saved as files on my PC.

- I'd like to be able to look at photos and stuff on it.

- I'd like to be able to run the computer through it, insofar as that's possible.

- I'd also like it to be reliable, and reasonably easy to use. I'll prolly buy it from John Lewis (if they sell what I decide to buy), to take advantage of the guarantee.

The place I'm moving to is a very small and rather isolated village. There's no cable, so I'm going to miss my Virgin TV on Demand Still, I'm planning to see if I can survive with HD Freeview or HD Freesat, and therefore I also need to decide between the two and buy a box that I can record on. I've read through the Freesat v. Freeview thread, but I'm undecided. I'll probably just go for Freeview in the end, though, because that'll be easier (there's no dish where I'm moving to), unless HD Freesat is head and shoulders better than HD Freeview.

I'm not sure what the budget is going to be, because I'm not yet sure what it costs to fit the bill described above.

Please help if you can. You've probably already gathered I'm not very techy, so words of one syllable are welcome. Many thanks for any help.

my telly does all you require

it connects to router by ethernet cable to the router and then a NAS hard drive which also has an ethernet. connection This hard drive is also attached to my router and is therefore wireless

mine is a G20 Panasonic , but is now superceded by G 30

Thanks, but that looks a bit mega-expensive!

Does anybody have any further suggestions, please?
