I can't imagine her even saying that if she was trying to hide the fact that it was her as a girl inside the suit - she keeps secrets but she doesn't actually lie about her past - but...
We don't know it was the same suit the girl was seen wearing or that she was the occupant that broke out of it.
Something causes River to revisit the past in reverse order - maybe part of that involved wiping some parts of her own past from her memory.
(fwiw - I don't reckon the kid is Melody - just trying to look at all angles)
