after only 10 minutes in its already much better than I remembered. Slyvester is totally underrated.

I think you may need to watch a couple of more times to get the gist of it. I certainly had to and for a while I didn't like it but it grew on me. It's not the best story of McCoy's Era but it certainly IMO the best performance he gave during his time, I just loved the way he tormented light in the final episode, it was good fun to watch. And Sophie Aldred put in a good turn as Ace as well.

Sylvester Mccoy not getting a fair crack of the whip was a sad affair, his regeneration less satisfying....if only they gave the exec job to cartmel....My war on JNT era politics marches on.

If you're only 'slightly confused' after the second watching I'd give up and call it a good job.

Slyvester and most of the cast didn't deserve toss like this. Some excellent performances hide a non-sensical story.

The only thing not confusing or mystical after this crapola is that Dr. Who got cancelled.

I've never known such an interesting set up descend into farce and nonsense as quickly as Ghostlight does.

It is the ultimate headless chicken of a story.

If I had to write the Radio Times entry it would go something like this:

Dr. Who - 7:30 pm - BBC2
Starring Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred
The Doctor and his companion fall into an alternative reality where plot lines have no cause and effect. The duo are tormented by a series of unrelated and increasing desperate monsters known as the Plot'holians.

Tbh it's been so long since I saw it that I remember very little about the story. Don't recall being particularly confused by it though,

I bet the lungbarrow assosiation is rubbish....they clearly stole a screenplay from David Lynch

Ghost Light is second only to Warriors Gate in its incomprehensibility. It has so much about it to like that I can't resist it, though.

It does show the Seventh Doctor at his coldest though. Poor Ace - she tells the Doctor her greatest fear and he takes her there!

It's never been my favourite stories of the 7th Doctor but that got more to do with creepy crawlies there and the soup *yuck* .
It definitely has a very surreal atmosphere to it but I like the Doctor being on top of everything and later on teasing Light into self-destruct.

Actually, when I watched TDW, the idea of a personificated TARDIS did remind me of the way that Control learned to develop in a person's form. Obviously a TARDIS consciousness is way more developed than anything that Control represented, but it did feel reminiscent in part.

I love you, but I had to watch it multiple times before I kind of got it.

It's strange, people are singing Moff's praises for the complexitiy of his stories, but this is just as complex and I think it was planned as part of an overall story arc where the Doctor had some plans for Ace etc.

Actually I even thought that House reminded me a bit of the Controller thing or whatever it was (my memory is rubbish).

So in effect, those who like the Moffat era should probably like this as well.

Ghost Light is complex. If you attempt to take it literally you're going to be disappointed. Demanding strict logic is the surest way to miss the point.

It has to be looked at in a broadly thematic way to be understood. Evolution, the necessity of change and adaptation, the willingness to let go of the past.

It's great to see Ace taken out of her comfort zone, give her a chance to be properly vulnerable. And also brilliant to see the Doctor at his most manipulative.

The dead are a trifle obsessive, methinks.

I love both Ghost Light and Warrior's Gate. I could watch them endlessly. I don't think they're incomprehensible, though-they just make the viewer sit down and think about them. Which is a good thing, I'd say.

Totally agree. A shame McCoy wasn't given a fourth season to develop his dark Doctor further, and Sophie the chance to conclude Ace's story.
