That was her response to Susan's pathetic whining that it was not her fault when it clearly was. Zoe wanted answers and, quite frankly, I do not blame her.
Had Susan taken the blame and admitted her responsibility then it would have been a different matter instead of trying to be sneaky and pass the buck. There was no ganging up. With £80 worth of unsold items - there must have been a LOT of unsold nail polishes (which were Zoe's choice) in there as well. Susan may have over estimated the number she could sell - but it wasn't the only product they were selling that day - and she wasn't the only person selling it.. She was perfectly right to say that Zoe was being unfair as it wasn't just her choice of product which wasn't selling as well as Zoe would have liked. |

Zoe may not have intended it to look like Susan was being ganged up on, but with Helen standing by Zoe and also criticising Susan, and Edna standing beside them, that was the impression conveyed. It's not surprising in the circumstances that Susan became defensive. |

What answers was Susan supposed to give?

What did Zoe expect to achieve by her conversation with Susan?
Apparently their sales went up after that conversation, so Zoe did achieve something.

"I don't know" would have been a start. Ideally she'd have taken a step back and reconsidered their sales strategy. My own view is that people don't want anyone to know when they are buying fake tan, so they needed to be more discrete. Giving up and devoting the resources to other products and services would have been reasonable.

Not necessarily; there may have been other reasons why sales went up. Maybe there was more footfall?
