Completely agree, there are total double standards when people compare either era, whethet they think the show under RTD was worse or better. There's even been a thread recently stating that under RTD the only actors who could actually act were the main cast, and now under SM every single actor is soooo much better...

The show really hasn't changed much at all, though obviously different people will bring different things to the table. Neither RTD nor SM got where they are by not knowing what makes a good series, which is why they've both brought in those elements whcih made it so. I for one at first thought that SM was steering the show slightly away from the high emotion which we saw in RTD's way - that clearly isn't the case, I'm glad to say.

NuWho v classic Who - well, it's basically a diferent series. RTD v SM - minor things yes, but to broadly slag off one and heap endless praise on the other just makes the poster look ignorant.

I generally agree with CO but I think it only applies to the forum members who constantly slated series 1 to 4 (and are still doing so). Moffat could have cast Janette Krankie as the Doctor and the anti-Tennant squad would have blown kisses in his direction.

This forum has a member who's rather passionate in his dislike for anything Moffat... and he gets slated in threads he hasn't even posted in. It has another member who was - and still is - passionate in his dislike for RTD/Tennant... and he gets a fan club.

Personally, I think both RTD and Moffat have made a lot of good moves plus quite a few mistakes. Doctor Who's still a success, though.

No, I never bullied anyone - I made an unthinking post which upset you and I apologised for it, as I should have done.

However, I've had similar things happen to me and I've just shrugged. I don't take things so personally.

As for "no reason", the fact that you regularly get into these little spats should make you think that there may be a reason and that is that you overreact and become abusive very quickly.

No, you bitched about me behind my back with the poster you think I am talking about now, and then slipped up and admitted it on a thread you didn't think I posted in. You might not think you are a bully, but you were then.

Also, I had only just joined when this happened and one of my first posts was about canon, which I was then took off on for having an opinion.

The only 'spat' I have been involved with recently is the homophobia one, in which I was not abusive at all.

This thread is ridiculous - for one, many of the 'myths' you posted are things that were never specifically focussed on as part of RTD's tenure, and the rest are ones that Moffat has been roundly criticised for every bit as much as RTD was.

If nothing else, one thing that should be taken away from this is that Davies and Moffat were pretty much on the same page as to what goes into Doctor Who.

In your PM, apologising to me, you said you had sent a poster a message telling him all about the nasty messages I had got. Yes, you admitted they received some as well. In fact you admitted you phrased your posts badly, which is possibly where the confusion now is.

I will shut up now on this one, but to go back to my original point, I didn't wreck this thread, it was wrecked as soon as they mentioned RTD vs SM.

Actually it's incredibly, boringly, straightforward.

Each new writer can push the boundaries just that little bit further than the last. The only real exception to this was the early days of Ecclestone when (because of the time elapsed since classic Who) they needed to hold back in order to allow the audience to find their feet.

No doubt when Moffat steps down his replacement will be able to get away with even more, that's just the way it works.

Im glad you managed to relieve yourself of such a heavy burden of knowing that Doctor Who is fiction and has the intention to entertain via modern popular culture...
