What is up with your attitude I'll never know, not a cheap attempt to "discredit you" (doing a good job of that yourself), just trying to put you straight on a few things. However if you choose to not buy the game then I doubt you'll be missed on this board. Bye. |

Is it true that the motion plus needs to be re-calibrated a lot in Zelda Skyward Sword
I hated the interruptions in Wii Sports Resort because of the constant need to re-calibrate, although I was using the Wiimote Plus attachment at the time. I am getting the Limited Edition bundle for Zelda with the Wiimote Plus Controller (not sure if it will make a difference), but one review mentions the need to re-calibrate as a negative. |

Yeah that's true, and is unfortunately something that kind of goes hand in hand with motion plus. Better that the option is there than not at all like some Motion+ games. It's alleviated by not swinging the sword around like a mental patient (as seen in the vid above).
When reviewers mention re-calibrating they mean pointing at the screen and pressing a button to instantly realign the crosshair to a center position (that can go a little wayward if you swung it around a lot), NOT having to set the wiimote down like in Wii Sports Resort. That only happens once on start up in Zelda and never during gameplay. |

![]() The 8-way thing you mentioned seems to fit with the effect I experienced, but there was no pressing of Z required, it was simply the default. The only accurate copying of sword movement was idle waving, as I said. A sharp swing resulted in it going into one of the 8-way presets (and not always the right one). Quote:

OK it was wrong of me to call you a liar. The sword reacts precise to your swings if you are not holding down Z button. I can't say no more than that because it is the truth. Any angle that I have swung at it has responded in the exact same way. If I hold z button then it is 8-way diagonal/up/down/left/right.
You may be disappointed with motion controls and that's fair enough, not everyone has to (or should) like them. I think in this game though they offer a huge advantage. Like when the enemies hold their shield to the left, you strike to the right, if they hold it above you swing below. it's effortless and feels intuitive. At least to me. It's far superior than the alternative of fumbling two analogue sticks with your thumbs. I suggest you maybe spend more time with the controls before you pass judgement on them? All the reviews make a point of stating how good they are, though I understand they still won't be for everyone and maybe you're one of those people. Are you suffering from lag? Does it not feel 1:1? Because this is one reason I play on a CRT TV: zero response time. If you are playing on a HDTV this might be one reason why you are unsatisfied with motion controls. Not all HDTV's have this problem but I know on mine they felt horrible even at 480p with a component cable, yet I don't notice any lag on 360/PS3 at 720p/1080p. Just trying to help you, not trying to discredit your opinion. |

It does have a game mode but for some reason it locks out a lot of the picture options and makes it looks quite nasty to my eyes (sharpness 50/100 on default). I prefer the SDTV RGB look anyway but you are right, Game mode would certainly make a big difference.

Its fine having a great game with all this motion plus stuff but if it dont work properly then the game is basically redundant. Think the game should have beeen designed to still allow buttons to be used if required. |

Never heard of lag on a HDTV. We have a fairly inexpensive Samsung 32" HDTV with a third party Wii component cable, and it's never been anything less than fantastic with the Wii. I don't have anything like a game mode set either.

I've not seen anybody in this thread trying to discredit someones opinions. But this sort of thing works both ways. This board may have it's share of resident Nintendo fans but it sure has a lot of Wii haters on it too, some of which like to take a stroll in the Wii section from time to time.... |

Can some explain to me what they describe 1 to 1 motion controls as ? Because to me playing the final version early cough cough (don't start with me pre order it anyway
)1. There is no lag like it needs to said anyway but some people or certain one2. The controls are 1 to 1 you move the controller to the right the sword moves to the right you move to left your sword moves to the left, you slash down your sword slashes down you get the picture. 3. Its ******* awesome

We have a 55 inch 1080p sony and I have never seen any lag whatsoever when using the wii, my son plays it most and he has never complained. We have a game mode on our TV but the game looks far better on our callibrated settings so the wii gets played on the same settings as when we watch the TV. Not sure what the game setting does on the sonys, think it just sets the motion flow to high and frigs with the sharpness and all that. But anyone who owns a sony knows that its near on impossible to see any difference between any of the motion flow settings. |

Some TVs produce lag because of the small amount of time it takes to process the information and show it on screen. For some it may only be a couple of milliseconds of lag which for some games you may not notice at all, but for the odd game that requires you to push a button at an exact moment you may notice that the timing is a little off.(much like lip sync issues with Blu Ray) Guitar Hero is a good example of one of these games as timing is everything and within the games options the games maker added a lag setting for those TVs that doesn't have a Game Mode to adjust what happens on screen to your button presses. Game mode on a TV shortens the processing time, but has to do away with some picture options in the process for that to happen so a bit of fiddling about is needed to get a picture your happy with. Chances are if you've not noticed any lag with any other games then you won't with Skyward Sword either. |

It doesn't matter what you say. She's determined to prove the game is defective one way or another.
