Pestle and Mortar recommendations
I'm looking for a new one. I want something of a decent size and made of granite or stone.
What I don't want is one of the ponsey ones which are style over substance and have a smooth inside. Unfortunately it's hard to tell from photos if they have a decent abrasive interior. Any recommendations and links to the products on eBay/Amazon would be appreciated. Looking to spend around £20 ish (will go more for a decent product). |

I have one from ikea. It's granite, I believe, and rough inside.
It is not huge, though, but I use it daily and suits me fine.

I don't use a stone one but use a suribachi. It's japanese and has grooves inside which makes life easy. Does not weigh a ton either.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suribachi I don't use it much as it is too big. |

I'm pretty much housebound at the moment and cheering myself up by buying things
![]() Also, there's no real decent homeware shop in town. I'd have to travel to one of the bigger towns in the region and also find what shops sell this type of stuff. The local Tesco Extra has granite ones but they are only small. About 4 or 5" wide. I already have a wooden one that size. I want a big hefty one to make thai curry pastes and the like. eBay and Amazon is a lot easier and has a bigger choice. |

![]() ![]() I don't know if it's big enough - and I'm normally very reluctant to recommend him - but someone bought a me a big heavy Jamie Oliver one about 8 years ago now and it's served me beautifully. |

I ended up buying one from Procook as I was buying something else from them and it made sense to save on the p&p.
I went for the 20cm one and it's absolutely massive and weighs a tonne! ![]() http://www.procook.co.uk/search.html?searchstr=pestle |
