The Ratings Thread (Part 21)
Quote:
I can see why ITV3 rates highly because of screening old dramas which may appeal to eldery waking up early, but ITV2?
6:00am - Coronation Street 6:25am - Emmerdale 6:50am - Planet's Funniest Animals 7:15am - Loose Women 8:10am - Judge Judy 8:35am - Judge Judy 9:00am - Judge Judy Why did an average of 103k watch that exactly? |

New thread.
![]() ITV2 is a channel which works...annoyingly. It knows it's audience and it draws them in with very cheap TV. |

attn: dancc. Breaking News. I've just set my Sky+HD box to record Castle on series link from next Friday on C5HD.
This will be my first time to watch a programme on C5 in many years. BTW. It's in HD on the Sky EPG. So Digiguide is hopefully wrong. |

3 hours of The Wright Stuff is a bit much surely?
The low ratings for Sky News Sunrise puts into perspective Eammon Holmes' digs at Daybreak's low ratings! |

WOW at The Mentalist. An outstanding hour of television.
Not sure what this means for Season 4 though? C5 announcer says it will be back "in the autumn." |

Yes, I can confirm that Castle will in fact be shown in HD on Channel 5, the only place to watch it in that format on UK television. This has been confirmed in the press booklet published today. Quote:
Daily Listings: Channel 5 Previous press booklets did not carry this crucial piece of info, hence me assuming that it would not be in HD. Looks like it was just an omission on their part.Friday 1st July 01/07 42 21.00 Castle Hedge Fund Homeboys (S) (Also simulcast on 5 HD) Quirky crime drama series about a bestselling mystery novelist who teams up with a New York detective to solve murders. Castle and Beckett uncover a story of betrayal and obsession while looking into the death of a teenage boy found floating in a boat in Central Park. (See Feature)

We learn this evening that SCD will have something up its sleeve this autumn that X Factor won't be able to match.
It will have a Knight of the realm on the show every week. Because Brucie has finally got his long-overdue knighthood in the Birthday Honours, to be revealed at midnight tonight. Arise, Sir Bruce. And beat that, Cowell... ![]() Fully deserved of course, and a good decade later than he should have got it. |

It got archived and therefore made unreadable by DS (presumably to save server space or whatever the technical term is). I think someone asked a moderator about it a few threads back but they weren't able/willing to revive it. A shame because it covers such a long period of time, but never mind.
![]() Thanks for the archive though, very helpful.

I guess this means Castle will only be the first season, they should hold back The Mentalist so that it doesn't have to go into repeats and have Castle play out on Fridays until January or February.
By my calculations the second half of Season 3 has averaged 2.2m so far since new episodes resumed in March (note that data for one week is currently missing, and data for two further weeks is yet to come in). This is up 15% on the first 9 episodes which aired in the latter half of 2010 and averaged 1.9m. I've left out the episode Jolly Red Elf from this comparison because the Christmas theme brought about an anomalously high rating. Even if you include this the average is still under 2m. Since it came back however it hasn't dipped below 2m once, whereas 8 out of the 10 episodes aired at the back end of 2010 were below 2m, albeit only slightly in some cases. I do appreciate not having to wait so long to see it, but from a ratings point of view it is clear to me that if they ran it from January onwards the show would be rating better. But I guess there's an element of not wanting to put all their eggs in one basket by airing the new seasons of all their big US procedurals at the same time. As for Castle, I guess they will see how season 1 performs before they decide whether to buy the rights to the other seasons. As long as it's popular it could become a regular partner for The Mentalist in that slot and then between them that's 48 Fridays at 9pm sorted. |

Never fear, as I received from Tom Miller (DS Forum Support guy) in the middle of May: Quote:
Hi Dave, PS, what a boring post of mine to begin part 21... Thanks for your message. We'd love to split the older threads but there are a LOT of them... just accessing them puts a lot of strain on the site so processing them would quite probably break things. They're hidden away safely and will make a return one day. We just aren't in a position to say when that'll be. Appreciate your patience! Tom

CS was good tonight, just watching the Comedy Gala on 4 - hoping it rates well, sadly J Ross has had 2 appearances so far and not everyone has luxury of watching on delay.
Well done to Brucie with the overdue knighthood maybe will help SCD ratings, giving it more gravitas - no doubt Cowell will get one in a few years for services(? ) to UK tv.Regarding The Wright Stuff and an 'extra' hour will just be more filler - some of it is already laboured and viewers don't flock to it. Not sure if anyone read this news - from Wednesday in Broadcast Now - http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/news/p...028522.article Gallowgate boss Ed Forsdick dies aged 45 8 June, 2011 | By Alex Farber Ed Forsdick, managing director of Ant & Dec’s production company Gallowgate, has died suddenly while on holiday. |

I really enjoyed The Mentalist as well, shame that is ended in Patrick shooting Red John, but no matter that was always how it was going to end anyways.
Graces bf being linked to Red John is also no surprise. |

ITV have commissioned 120 episodes of The Chase. Doesn't sound much, but that amounts to nearly 6 months of weekday episodes.
