Also a lot of people were still driving home from work when it was on, so if it had become a real nailbiter and went on into peak time, then 7 or even 8 million viewers would have tuned in. However, Murray has certainly made viewers want to watch Wimbledon again as, if it was 2 obscure East Europeans playing this evening, ratings would have been vastly lower.

I apologise to everyone for that post earlier - it has just been one of those days.

I do feel that the BBC should set out and keep to it what they intend to do when a British player is playing in teatime, evening. For me only the semi-final should take priority over news and certain programmes. There was no reason why the match couldn't have carried on BBC Two at 6pm.

It all depends what programme is being shunted to bbc2, also the bbc don't know when a tennis match will start or end - Murray was second on centre court the match could have started and ended as early as 2.30pm or as late as 8.30pm.

Let us see what happens on Friday, ideally for BBC Murray would be in the final set of a 5 set thriller as 7.00pm approaches on BBC1, the match would end at 7.50pm leading nicely into EE, CS would be dented for the 1st episode.

What do you mean by 'watch Wimbledon again' as if this is the first year Wimbledon has had a UK hopeful?

With Murray and Henman before him, this has been the case for over a decade.

I think most regions did. A 5 minute local news programme with a full length bulletin this evening after the Ten O'Clock News.

Rose tinted glasses springs to mind. The Phil & Fern era was riddled with innuendos and rarely won any awards, Richard & Judy era had a talking robot and a man in his late 40s jumping about on a weather map in the hope he would fall in.

It has never been any more, or any less, than Take a Break meets Inside Soap. I don't understand where the notion of it becoming more and more innane comes from, it has always been pointless TV and has never pretended to be anything more than it is. Yes it has become a little stale, but when you're running a show for 23 years with no drastic changes to the format it is bound to happen. Its also long overdue a new set.

EastEnders and Emmerdale to clash next Thursday.
EastEnders has a very Odd Hour-Long Special (they usually only do it if eps are missed) and it's Ronnie's Exit so quite a big one.
Followed by a 90mins Best EastEnders exits on BBC3.

Thats my Thursday sorted then

Children of Earth did 6.5, 6.1, 6.4, 6.8 and 6.6 million for it's 5 episodes.

I'd guess Miracle Day episode 1 will do more than 4.8. Think it's good for a 6 million final ratng.

Come off it. The logo is dreadful, the graphics, studio design, Keith lemon, the hub, boasting about having 2 guests that have the biggest breasts in the world , Philip Schofield etc. the list goes on.

Just because it is a daytime show doesn't mean you can justify a poor production.

I see Murray won in three straight sets then, didn't miss much last night... Don't forget the Wimbledon average will be from 13:45 to 19:00.

Good point, the Federer shock exit game might have got decentish daytime ratings, but yes I doubt the overall average will be nowhere near 5 or 6m, not for such a long extended show.

Cheers Bushmills.

Really good for The Apprentice. After a bit of a dip last year it's done incredibly well this year and it may end up being the highest rating series ever in the official ratings. OK for Lewis considering it was a repeat and had tough competition. It's a similar rating to what a new Marple got a few weeks ago!

Bushmills, do you know how Dinner Date is doing at 5pm on ITV against Four In A Bed/Come Dine on C4. Both shows seem to be going for a similar audience so I'd be interested to see how they're doing.

Also really good for Waterloo Road. A 25.4% share is really good for it and for it to get 5m in a c3.5m sandwich is really good going. It's a valuable show for BBC1 and I can see why they keep producing more episodes. If it's getting 5m at 7:30pm in the Summer then it may well be close to 6m in the Winter.

Very good rating for Wimbledon. Murray/Nadal will bring big numbers. Great rating for The Apprentice as well, almost certainly the most watched series as well.
