Despite the quote, I wouldn't take that as being set in stone, six months before Christmas Day, anything could happen. In fact I wonder if they might change that quote later to remove the "Day". Be a bit boring if it does go on Christmas Day, I don't think it's special enough, a bit like when they used to do They Think It's All Over on Christmas Day, which I never liked the idea of.

The other good thing, of course, as far as the Beeb's concerned is that it costs bugger all to make with the set standing all year round and its massive cast, so I reckon there's a good chance they'll keep churning it out. Its popularity does baffle me a bit, though, especially among young people, I dunno why they're so mad for it.

Yes, UTV do indeed do half an hour of news at 10.30, which I think is a much better way of tailoring the ITV schedule to a local audience than STV's stupidity. I think it worked well for everyone yesterday, both for the tennis and the local news as the ratings for it were really good. Despite the complaints on here, in the end it was really no different to when they cut it down to five minutes during the World Cup. I imagine the late bulletin being the main one will be a frequent occurance during the Olympics.
It'd be unlikely to be the case to become the main bulletin full time, though, simply because the hours are more anti-social and I doubt they'd be able to get all the technical staff working at 10.30 as they normally have at 6.30, especially in some of the smaller regions. That said, i always wonder why they have a late bulletin on Sundays, it must surely be easier to get people if they did it at lunchtime.
