What about 'The Only Way Is Eastbourne' aka Eastbourne 2 B Wild' - that seems more C5 budget - show residents walking on the promenade arguing with candy floss sellers, cheating at bingo, trying to abvoid hawkers with lucky heather - it could run and run - I can't imagine any of them wanting to surf either.

That said all credit to ITV 2 the "The Only Way Is..." prefix works better in these discussions, and better than "... Shore" at any rate.

The BBC have the Friday 10.35 slot for chat shows well established with first Ross and now Norton, I don't see why they should move because it overlaps with a lower rated show that has only just moved into the slot

As for last night, bar the soaps which held up well, inparticular, Corrie last night which was 0.6m in front of EE, everything else totally bombed.

And then The Mentalist is back, with S1 repeats resuming.


Carr's got 5 more weeks to go. Norton and O'Grady are coming to the end of their runs, with the former only a compilation episode next week.

I was just joking as Eastbourne - Melbourne rhymed and I was considering C5 budgets. With BB starting soon I can see C5 doing follow up programmes, maybe a a year in the life of the winner (if they are interesting enough) - bettter than the trouble with Josie though. Hopefully they would have some wacky & zany friends - and C5 could build a programme around them in their day to day lives.

The only good thing about these shows is they might ultimately squeeze the Kerry Katona/Jordan type shows out of the schedules.

These compilations might be lasting all summer, for all I know.

Must have been some champagne flowing at ITV Towers tonight as the useless Scottish loser choked yet again, depriving BBC1 of a spectacular audience for a British man in the Wimbledon final on Sunday. I reckon a peak of 20m would tune in should we ever get a man in the final - alas, it won't be this year.

Still, there should be a decent peak for BBC1 tonight - although it was clear Murray had bottled it well before the ITV soap block started, so perhaps ITV won't have been dented that much.

Can someone explain, btw, why BBC2 can't show English regional programming any more on digital? They used to do on analogue, and obviously BBC1 is transmitted in different regional versions, so I don't understand why it can't be done.

i know you often do demo's on a Saturday or Sunday. Would it be possible to give us a split of the 6-7pm news hours for ITV1 and BBC1 on a "normal" night? And also the weekend morning shows for BBC1 between 9-12am on Saturday & Sunday if possible?

I have said in the broadcasting part of the thread with the roof now available at Wimbledon I think the Final should start at 6pm. This will get more of an audience and the figures suggest this looking back at 2008 + 2009

It really is amazing what thoughts go though your head.

You will probably burst with excitement during the Olympics.


For one, they would have to transmit about 15 versions of BBC2 on Sky, which would be very costly for something that is not needed 99.9% of the time.

Although the BBC need one miracle for it to happen I don't think it would peak anywhere near 20m - I'd guess around 15m, with an average of 10-12m, based on the 7m or so semi-finals can get in peak time. I also think especially on a sunnny day tennis is something the casual fan can dip in and out of to keep up to date with the score and then watch properly once the game seems to be heading to a conclusion.


And as Andy23 says, the main reason BBC2 can't cope with regional TV anymore is the Enlish regions are not on satellite. In theory they could handle them on Freeview if the mux was set up to accomodate that, but in England it isn't at the moment - though I doubt the BBC would put the regional news out on Freeview alone even in such rare circumstances, although of course they've no quibbles about half of their Wimbledon/Olympic coverage not being on Freeview.

Unfortunately I haven't received any data since last Sunday so won't be able to do the usual weekly demo update this week. Not sure when I'll restart getting the data, hopefully soon.

The News ratings are from Monday 13th June and Tuesday 14th June - I figured those would be "normal" days, and didn't want to do the following two weeks due to Wimbledon affecting things. And the morning data is from Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th June.

Thanks v much. BBC1 does much better with the 16-34's on Saturday mornings than I was expecting and the demos for both the shows in the 10-12noon slot are very evenly spread.

The regional news age splits are almost identical % wise between BBC1 & ITV1 but the BBC obviously has a lot more viewers and a lot more ABC1's.

Also a little interesting to see the ITV 6.30 beat the BBC 6.00 in 16-34s although the numbers are small compared to the numbers watching The Simpsons and Hollyoaks at the same time.

So despite it's low ratings I'm guessing Hollyoaks wins in the 16-34 demo at 6.30pm then - or at least runs the regional news very close!

rzt - any chance of the demo figures for the weekend soap omnibuses - obviously EastEnders on BBC1 (though that's been all over the place lately), Corrie on ITV1 on Saturday, the ITV2 showings of Corrie and Emmerdale and Hollyoaks on E4 on Saturdays and C4 on Sundays. With repeats and online showings now I doubt the soap omnibus really served the purpose it once did.
