But the 6pm format is a winning one for the BBC as it is and The One Show doesn't disgrace itself at 7pm so will they look to change it?”
No they won't, but what's been suggested is of course Nationwide, which used to mix both national and regional news in the same show, although that was in the days when the news was the news - a straight read- and any type of news analysis would be the duty of current affairs, and the two departments were not only based in separate buildings, but also hated each other. People talk about needless duplication these days, in the past you'd get both news reporters and current affairs reporters at everything.
When The One Show started it was of course billed as Son of Nationwide, although it's not as topical as that. I'd like The One Show to be a bit more newsy, actually, rather than half a dozen items that could be on any night of the week. It doesn't have to be Panorama or anything.
I've said it before but Doctors did have a primetime run very early on, they repeated a few episodes at 7pm but it didn't do much. And if they did ever give it a regular primetime slot, it'd just weaken daytime.

When Channel Five launched Live with Chris Moyles, Chris Evans, who of course produced it, said there were loads of men who didn't want to watch Emmerdale and this was aimed at them, which was a fairly decent suggestion. Unfortunately they didn't want to watch that either.
Primetime does begin much later, and certainly end much later, than it used to, in the past you'd get loads of new shows at 7pm or even earlier, the 1984 series of Doctor Who was at 6.40 on Thursdays and Friday for example, which would seem bizarre now. I've also got a Radio Times somewhere from the early eighties where people moan about them spending too much money on programming after ten o'clock when they were sat in front of their tellies at 5.30 wanting something. As a nation I think we get home from work later than we used to twenty or thirty years ago, and certainly go to bed later.

It is on a terrestrial channel! The BBC have the rights to it but decided, not doubt thanks to clashes with Wimbledon, to only put live games on the red button with highlights on BBC2. But theyve shown live women's football before, in Euro 2005 all the England games and the final were live on BBC2, 6pm kick-offs, and they showed live games in the last World Cup on daytime BBC2, and later BBC1.
But no, they wouldn't get more than three million in prime time, because women's football is still very much a minority sport. Look at the attendances at the grounds for a start. In Germany it's much more mainstream, loads more people play it and go to the grounds. Same as the Winter Olympics, it rates much better in other parts of Europe as the sports involved are more commonplace.
If women's football got good ratings, there would be way more of it, the rights cost next to nothing.
