22m is about typical for a 9pm Friday night during summer. It can go lower during warm weather though. Although of course in addition to that 22m there could be millions more watching DVDs, timeshift, or playing video games on their TV sets.

But it will have the Scottish Holby City ratings included in it, so it could go up or down.

There is the little matter of the Six Nations though - so unless it's a rush job like the first and penultimate series of SYTYCD they would need to axe Let's Dance to make way for it - and I doubt they'll do that. I would guess Sport Relief will be on March 16th next year, which means Let's Dance will probably run from 18th Feb, giving The Voice just six weeks - although if they ran the auditions and Battle rounds stripped over a week from New Year that might work:

It's no surprise at all - C4 have often played chatshows at 10pm (and 10.30pm) on Friday nights and they've all held up despite clashing with Jonathan Ross.

I think though 8 out of 10 Cats suffered being cut back to 30 minutes, plus Jason Manford is a huge loss now he's sold his soul to ITV. King Of would be a better fit after Alan Carr IMO - C4 could really do with a sitcom in that 9.30pm slot instead, even if it's a repeat. A quick rerun for Friday Night Dinner wouldn't have been a bad idea, or repeating The IT Crowd.

Good night for Channel 4, its good to see them go back to entertainment on a Friday night but they need a big show to prop the night up. Alan Carr could break 2m if they switched his show with King Of so there is no clash with Graham Norton (Paul O'Grady probably doesn't appeal to the same audience) but King Of would completely collapse.

From the share figures posted, I'm guessing they got higher than 6.2% (the equivalent Friday last year, when the first BB eviction aired) so they probably aren't going to miss Big Brother this year.

in the last BARB figures it shows Graham Norton starting at 10.38pm. If that's the norm, Alan Carr would be into its last 20 minutes.

Thats also when Jennifer Lopez came on who he was promoting all night, so some will have stuck around to watch her. It will be interesting to see how it pans out when he has lesser guests on.

Too right, yet another derivative singing competition that should really be on a commercial station. The BBC should be about providing something different.

There is always a place on the BBC for big budget entertainment series and the public expect this. The Voice fits well on the BBC, having watched some of it on YouTube it is very different from your standard ITV talent show.

How did Graham Norton do last night? Funniest show of the series IMO, started off watching AC but switched over, no comparisson, though I like Alan, he's no pro like Graham.

Johnathon Ross's new ITV magic show looked terrible, will be interesting to see how that rates, God how humiliating to have to present crap like that? Poor JR

That's interesting considering the pilot Penn & Teller: Fool Us show on ITV earlier this year was well received, even though its viewing figures were only ~4m.

They showed a tiny little clip of Fool Us. The pilot episode was excellent and was very well received on Twitter and on here.

Well nothing has been altered from the pilot and that went down really well so I wouldn't read too much into that. I can't see it rating well tonight because of the schedule its in but it deserves to do well.

Which, by the way, was a complete waste of time, Sky One's "innovative" comedy programming has now gone from a rip-off of They Think It's All Over to a rip-off of Celebrity Juice. This did absolutely nothing ten million other panel games haven't done - 8 Out Of 10 Cats was going for the exact same targets an hour earlier - and this show should be slagging off pointlessly famous people like Tamara Ecclestone, not having her as a team captain.

But, hey, check out that picture quality, eh?


I prefer 8 Out of 10 Cats as half an hour, it just seemed to drag over 45 minutes, the first round seemed to go on for hours. There's a reason why most panel shows are edited to half an hour. Jason Manford's no great loss, Jon Richardson is one of the better comedians around and it's all about Sean Lock anyway.

Of course, when So Graham Norton went up against the first year of Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, it beat it every single week.

Fair enough, maybe it's good, but the clip looked dire, in saying that it was quite short. It felt like a downward move for someone of JR stature, more like a show Vernon Kay would present.

Pretty dull night of ratings. Low for My Family, whose axe looks wholly justified - but pretty decent repeat numbers for Miranda. That repeat run will just quietly chug along, I suspect, doing no end of benefit for the show when it does return with a new series.


If they need to move Lets Dance to make it happen, then to be honest, I think thats easily a price worth paying. There's plenty of alternatives for the dance show - they could even strip 2 semi's and a final of it midweek before Sport Relief night if they wanted.

But there's no doubt in my mind that a January launch is infinitely preferable to an Easter one for The Voice - and thats what the priority needs to be. Just look how far SYTYCD fell moving from one to the other this year. They've tried launching stuff at Easter for several years now, and its always ended badly. The hot weather, Eurovision and BGT play havoc with it and snaffle up all the media attention.

In January, we've seen mediocre game shows pulling 6-7m in the post-Christmas hangover. And thats not to mention the opportunities for promotion the BBC has over the Christmas period.

Good night for bbc2 strong start for the kennedys.

Danny Cohen saying in the Mirror today that the BBC takes the entertain in "inform educate and entertain" very seriously. To be honest I agree with him, at the end of the day licence fee payers need to be entertained and (SCD aside) the BBC has failed to do this largely over the last 15 years with a considerable number of very poor efforts. The suggestion that ITV offered 30 million to the BBC's 25 million says that the makers prefer the corporation and it would seem that the BBC have to rely on loyalty and third party preference when bidding for a range of things.
I dont want the BBC to lose sports rights but the respective bodies will have to make the decision over the Beebs promotional power against the financial clout of others. If one big contract has to go it has to go, but i suspect the Mail would be bemoaning the lack of entertainment value on the BBC if it ditched The Voice but retained the sport.

I was just checking on BARB, and England vs Uruguay on ITV2 on a Sunday morning at 7:30am had 1.18m, I can only presume back then GMTV was unwilling to give ITV some of its slot so it had to go on ITV2.

In 2007, I think most were on ITV1. Actually, checking BARB, most were on ITV2 or ITV4...

Low all round last night. My Family is a shadow of its former ratings self and O'Grady didn't get a boost from GaGa. Perhaps the 3 week break dented it. Miranda repeated well and Castle and The Kennedys both started well. A mixed bag for C4 - 1.7m at 8pm for CDWM is pretty good against the soaps and Chatty Man did much better than I expected against Norton. OK for 8 Out of 10 Cats as it did better than it was doing at 10pm and they won't have been expecting any more. Not so good for King Of though. C4 lost 0.4m when it came on and got them back when it ended and Chatty Man began, which is never a good sign.

It's a common problem with these shows but it's just thin on content - think there were three questions in half an hour last night, and when the laughs aren't coming (which they weren't last night) it doesn't work.

It's probably more editing than extending that it needs - throw an extra round in there and it would move on at a better pace. To be honest though it is one of those shows when everytime you think it's been axed it seems to resurface.

BTW, Chris Moyles Quiz Night is filming again soon. Where that ends up is anyones guess, but hopefully they do switch attention back to Fridays now permanently when it comes to comedy.
