I think TXF will definitely be down at least two million.

Cheryl,Simon an Dannii are a huge loss to the show and they will be very missed.

I hope for 2012 that they will have the same panel again. I'm sure Cheryl will come back and so will Simon as he will be able to juggle both the US and UK as the XFactor USA will be in it's second year then.

Ah ok, thanks.

Odd One In has a daytime feel about it and The Marriage Ref feels appears very much like a Channel 4 comedy show. Penn and Teller was very good but it's going to get lost in the schedule, I think.

I don't think it will lose 2 million. Maybe 1-1.5m. Also I don't think Cheryl and Simon are Huge losses as both got so annyoing last year. Danni leaving might affect the ratings a bit but it won't be because of them 2.

And Any way i expect Simon to come back for the Live Shows and then the ratings could be huge.

Penn & Teller is the only one I like. Saw two minutes of The Marriage Ref and it's not for me. I pray Lee Mack's show is good.

Interesting to see the Irish ratings and I hope you can update them regularly. however do you not have the ratings for the other 2 Irish channels as well?

Desperate Housewives certainly seems to be a lot more popular amongst the Irish than it is in the UK!

I'LL TRY MY BEST. DH is very popular over here. by other two do u mean TV3 nd TG4. TG4 is in irish nd broadcasts a lot of repeats so probably nothin much 2 note but it did get its highest ratings ever 4 a GAA match featuring Dublin a few weeks back.

i'll see can i find tv3's ratings. its our version of ITV. Has good shows like come dine wit me ireland nd celebrity salon

In the group stages only the big games are on ITV1 - those featuring the Home Nations, the opening game and any major Tier 1 clashes not featuring the Home Nations. Usually too any midweek game involving Scotland, Wales or Ireland against a minnow is shown only in that nation on STV/UTV/ITV Wales, with the rest on ITV4. They certainly won't displace Daybreak for Tonga vs Canada - though they might opt to show the overnight games on ITV1 I guess.

The vast majority of games are at the weekend so Daybreak will barely be affected - indeed along with the third place play-off on 21st Oct the games you've highlighted are the only times ITV1 will likely show the tournament during the week, and it is Lorraine/Jeremy Kyle rather than Daybreak which will be mostly affected.”

Surely then to be consistent, England games against minnows should also be on ITV4, outside England.

But not having RWC games on the main channel and having Daybreak on is pathetic, of course if this happened.

Don't think it's been mentioned but C4 are putting Sirens in the Monday 10pm slot from next week.

In typical Digital Spy style, most of tonight's new shows have had negative reviews, except Penn & Teller.

I expect Lee Mack will have the highest rating of all 4 shows though.

I really wanted to like Lee Mack's All Star Cast but that was tough going. And when you watch how dire BBC1 is on a Saturday night you understand why they bought The Voice!

The Sunday Times is reporting that the BBC are axing Formula One:

http://twitpic.com/5dggsr

Thanks to the broadcasting forum for the link.

It's been rumoured for a while but, if true, it's a bit of a surprise. I wonder whether ITV will look to buy the rights again or whether it could go to Sky. I personally hope it stays on a Free to Air Channel. It could be a good move for Channel 5 to expand their sports rights by buying it.

The BBC Are so Stupid. They Pay 22m for a reality show that is a big risk but they Axe F1 and that gets good ratings

As much as I'd love to see it and in many ways it would be a good home for it, the F1 contract would likely be too expensive for Channel 5.

Sky will get it. Their interest in the sport has shot up in recent months and I doubt it's a coincidence.

The Concorde Agreement between the teams would prevent it going to Sky as things stand - it states it must be shown free to air in all the big territories where possible. Although, that agreement is up at the end of the year and News International are trying to get their hands on the sport.

I still don't see the teams agreeing to let it go to Sky. They need 5m+ viewers in the UK for the sponsors.

I hope ITV. Don't send it to Sky whatever you do. I suspect either:

a) BBC will deny this tomorrow or Monday
b) new agreement announcement at midnight*

I hope ITV, Channel 4 or Channel 5 find some money to get it ahead of Sky. ITV have £30m brunign a hole in their pocket after losing out on The Voice.

And this axing the first sign of cuts from the BBC after they managed to find millions to buy a singing show?

I know people keep saying £25m for The Voice, but I think thats very reasonable.

2 years of X Factor costs ITV at least £70m - and thats a conservative estimate.

2 years of Casualty costs £50m.

3 years of Match of the Day is £170m - and thats just for the rights, never mind the production.

The fact it it's money that could've been spent on drama, comedy or sporting rights. Drama outside crime shows leaves a lot to be desired on commercial TV. Comedy shows, especially sitcoms, appear to have been nearly abandoned. If spending this money on The Voice means that Free to Air loses a sporting event then it is a bad move IMO.

The article says F1 costs more than the entire BBC4 budget, so as much as I love the BBC's coverage, I suppose it makes sense. I wonder what Jake Humphrey will do?

They must've budgeted for it previously though. I know they have to make cuts etc. and if the money was going into drama/comedy, even documentaries or children's TV I'd understand. It's how the money's being spent instead that grates...

EDIT: Maybe Jake will move to the new channel with the F1? Thouh if it goes to ITV they may give Steve Rider the job.

I agree that £25m is reasonable considering everything but some of those figures are a bit high. 2 years of X Factor + BGT costs ITV £80m (3 years for £120m) so that's about £55m for 2 years of X Factor. I doubt Casualty costs £500k per episode either (as that figure suggests).

Shame about the F1 but I guess something had to give. I think they'd have been better off sacrificing The Six Nations instead though. I guess it'll be back to ITV now, then.

They're completely different budgets. BBC spending on sport is capped at (I think) 9% of overall expenditure and has to be reduced in-line with the overall budget. The Sunday Times might want to spin it as keeping networks, but in reality, the reduction of the sport budget will be a relatively isolated matter. It's not trading off with drama, entertainment, or any other genre. A few of us on these boards have been debating for weeks which major contract could be lost - for me it boiled down to this or the Six Nations. And we may have just seen the decision.

I think that's quite a rigid way of running a broadcaster though, especially one like the BBC where they should be flexible to people's interests and the dearth of a certain genre on television or radio in general. Admittedly, this may not be the BBC's choice to budget this way and if it isn't they need to be given the chance to be more flexible.

i'd rather they got rid of the six nations. We saw the ratings the F1 got last wk. MADNESS
