Traffic Cops is a new episode this week.
I see the BBC have had to resort to advertising the fact new episodes are running after all the repeats they air. Sure sign the show is repeated too much

8 O'Clock Heroes: Submarine School 1.0m (4.5%)
By recent C5 8pm standards good, but shame it didn't get more

I notice that from 4 July Pointless takes the 5.15pm slot on BBC One...

The Weakest Link moves to BBC Two 4.30pm...
Good move, but I hope they don't expose Pointless to the extent that they've exposed The Weakest Link.

Is she mad, following in the footsteps of Morecambe & Wise, Chiles & Bleakley, Corden and Phil Cool*?

Brave move. Thought she had a real future at the BBC, and a shoo-in for Nick Robinson's job when he moves on.
I'm surprised. Surely the next twelve months in politics are going to be more interesting than the next twelve months in business?

I think tv news is the one area where viewing share represents quality.
absolutely not The 6 o'clock news which is about one step below Newsround is themost popular programme of the day.

I'm surprised. Surely the next twelve months in politics are going to be more interesting than the next twelve months in business?
by what criteria to make that rather sweeping decision? Business & economics drive politics IMO.

Well, we might see a little bit of economic growth, but another twelve months of coalition government could be fascinating.

but no election, a government with a huge majority and no career progression versus promotion to editor role, US economy on the skids, Greece imploding and the UK economy under pressure?

btw fascinating interview on Jeff Randall tonight by Joel Hills with Alexander Lebedev. Thats business news done right!

good week for TV3 with CDWM Ireland - maybe some UK tv channel might like to do Celebrity Salon - z list celebs turn hairdressers? you'd never complain about Love Island ever again after watching that I'd bet.

Hasn't BBC3 already done something like that before ? Celebrity Scissorhands, I think it was called.

No surprise, but I'm hating these "scripted reality" shows becoming a success.

US Ratings: (18-49 demo / Total)
8:00 NBC America’s Got Talent 3.2/11 11.97
FOX MasterChef 1.8/6 4.14
ABC Wipeout 1.7/6 5.33
CBS NCIS (R) 1.3/4 9.15
CW One Tree Hill (R) 0.4/1 0.98

9:00 NBC The Voice (9p-11p) 4.3/12 11.81
ABC 101 Ways to Leave a Game Show (Premiere) 1.9/5 5.55
CBS NCIS: Los Angeles (R) 1.3/4 8.76
FOX Raising Hope (R) 1.2/3 2.60
CW Hellcats (R) 0.3/1 0.79

9:30 FOX Raising Hope (R) 1.0/3 2.34

10:00 ABC Combat Hospital (Premiere) 1.2/3 5.26
CBS The Good Wife (R) 0.7/2 4.78

Wipeout seems a bit low, 101 Ways did OK at 9pm though not spectacular. It'll make episode 2 though.

What? Hardly any shows aside from Idol break past the 4.0 barrier, nothing "meh" about them.

its only 12m viewers in total though isn't it, compared to Idol getting high 20m's? Or am i reading those figures incorrctly?

Every year what counts as "strong" gets smaller and smaller. It's all relative.

It seems traditional US TV is making the same mistakes as in the UK with programming that is very narrow in appeal.

"The Voice" on the BBC will surely be a younger fem-friendly show which gets low numbers because men and older viewers will feel alienated.

Unless the BBC decide to destroy the concept completely...

To add to the quality of News shows argument:

When you have BBC News and ITV News competing head-to-head at 10pm every night and BBC News is nearly always comfortably ahead, many nights double ITV News then it must point to BBC News being higher quality in the eyes of the majority.

In terms of total viewers, it is pretty average. Many shows do better (even AGT at 8pm did better). Among adults 18-49, it is a big hit. Not many shows manage 4.0+ ratings. It's just the biggest hits like Two and a Half Men, Modern Family, Glee, NCIS and Dancing With The Stars - and even those shows don't always hit those numbers.

The Voice's audience profile has changed significantly as well - early episodes skewed much younger.

1.01 - 11.8m (5.1)
1.02 - 12.6m (5.7)
1.03 - 10.5m (4.7)
1.04 - 10.0m (4.5)
1.05 - 8.5m (3.8)

1.06 - 14.4m (4.9)
1.07 - 12.3m (4.6)
1.08 - 12.3m (4.6)
1.09 - 11.8m (4.3)

In the first 5 episodes, it averaged 10.7m and a 4.8 rating - meaning around 60% of its audience were aged 18-49.

When it started taking an America's Got Talent lead-in as of episode 6, the total audience grew. The show has averaged 12.7m in the past 4 weeks but the proportion of adults 18-49 is down to 48% (a 4.6 average).

The show is a big hit - the thing against it is that after that second episode, expectations rose and there was a feeling that it might be massive. But that hasn't really happened. The ratings are generally steady week-to-week after that 3rd week drop. Not building towards the final but not dropping either.

Tonight the roles are reversed. The Voice airs at 8pm (or whenever Obama finishes) and AGT from 9pm as a 2 hour show. So it'll be interesting to see if the audience profile changes again.
