I think airing after AGT was always going to increase the number of older viewers watching. Plus, its competition in the main season from CBS and ABC was old-skewing so there were lots of older people with nothing to watch and some have started watching The Voice. The second episode definitely raised expectations, perhaps unfairly, and I do think the move to 10pm from episode 3 hit it a bit in the long run, but nevertheless it's a big hit and the Superbowl lead in for the season 2 premiere will only help it further.

Obama will probably dent it a bit tonight, so a comparison may be a little unfair. I think AGT may be close to it in the demo tonight, as the last Wednesday episode 2 weeks ago (also 2 hours) averaged a 3.7, and I can see The Voice getting something like that tonight in the earlier slot.

The one downside of The Voice being there is that AGT has been dented a bit by airing at 8pm. The 2 hour premiere shows real y-o-y growth, and it's held up admirably at 8pm but I think it could be doing high 3s-low 4s at 9pm and be on course for its highest ever series average (which it may still be). I think NBC should have moved the Tuesday AGT audition shows to Mondays at 9pm until The Voice ended (after the 2 hour premiere which would have stayed on Tuesday), as that way both shows could have reached their full potential. Even so, AGT is doing really well this year, and NBC will be really happy with both, especially considering how other Summer hits are doing this year, as what with The Bachelorette down, SYTYCD not doing that well and Wipeout being harmed from overexposure AGT will definitely be the #1 Summer show this year (unless Hell's Kitchen has something of a surge this year which seems unlikely).

BBC2 might do some good factual and drama right now, but I can't imagine them launching something big like The Apprentice, Who Do You Think You Are? or Masterchef anymore. It's seems to of gone far more down the highbrow route, and it really makes you wonder what the point of BBC4 is now.

It's kind of like saying though with 6m it would be a flop here when compared to the 11-12m+ The X Factor has been getting. And remember it's on NBC - after recent years anyone watching it is considered a hit.

I do fear though for The Voice come next Spring - it's surely going to suffer airing the same night as Dancing with the Stars.

It does have a Superbowl premiere though - should be well over 30m viewers for that.

He was nominated for a Golden Gobe for Luther - some actors may not walk away from a show that is giving them critical acclaim. He is making Ghost Rider 2 & Prometheus right now. He has Pacific Rim lined up but not much else.

If the script and ratings remain strong then I would imagine he would make himself available for 4 more epsiodes in Series 3.

Shows like The Voice and Glee depend on the younger demos, having 25 million over 50's would not be ideal for Coke, Ford, Pepsi etc to sponsor/advertise. If they can get 4-5 million in the key demo the network is happy.

Really pleased to see Luther holding up. I have seen all the episodes from series 1 and series 2 so far and am quite enjoying the show. It's nice that even though Elba is a big movie star he can still do a show like this.

Looks like Channel 4 had a solid night on Sunday evening, pulling in their 6th best audience of the year so far with their movie premiere. A very good audience on the plus 1 service too. The 8pm timeslot worked well for it.

Funny wasnt it back up to 1m on Monday? So why are the using June 3rd numbers? Surely they would have been in crisis on June 4th about the June 3rd numbers and relatively relieved last night about the June 20th figures!

I think that's Emmerdale's lowest overnight rating of the year - first time under 6m as well I think, no doubt dented by the Tennis.

ITV seems to be having a hard time now.

And it includes +1, though I've no idea how much that nonrmally accounts for? Wimbledon does seem to be doing well. There's been quite a bit of controversy for the first week. Serena nearly crashing out, Venus down a set, Nadal & Murray both loosing sets in their first matches.

Another good night for The Apprentice. That shows ratings seem back to their best after a down run last autumn. It seems right back up to 2009 levels now, at least.

Meanwhile, 24 Hours in A&E is looking good for Channel 4. Alongside the Embarrassing Bodies strand and One Born Every Minute, they seem to have quite a rota of the medical themed stuff doing well for them. They need it though - to offset the falls that have become most of their food and property staples.

I don't think they'll be overly worried....they tend to spend very little money on their summer schedule, as there's little advertising money to be had. The channel will come out of hibernation in September.

ITV have soaps to pull in much needed advertising revenue but some shows are very poorly received. 15.9% of viewers in the 2.5hrs after Emmerdale is not good news for the advertisers that invest with them. Look at the News at Ten rating not even 2m (8.5%) for a flagship show.

That's a virtual word for word reprint of a story another paper printed a month or so ago, comparing figures from a summer day to a snow day and ignoring the bigger picture.

It used to be 3 live, 2 recorded, but they switched to all live last autumn. And althuogh I'm no fan of Loose Women ITV aren't going to be stupid enough (again) to axe something when they have no replacement for it.

fair point, actors can be like that, and as shown by Doctor Who recently the BBC is not too worried if the series is delayed a bit longer than normal.

Idris Elba has become big but it's good that he chosen to do British TV as he can easily make more money making films, it was his role in The Wire that got him noticed. He also has a recurring role in The Big C
