By that argument all premiere sports events should be on BBC1 - but they are not. ITV have some, Sky have some...it shouldn't matter a jot what channel the tennis is on. If it has a place on the schedule leave it be, instead of throwing it all over the place in an attempt to boost ratings.
Fudd you know we'll disagree on this point, but given the BBC only has rights to some sports (F1, Tennis, Six Nations), in my view all the big ties from those events should be on BBC One. The call a few weeks ago for the F1 was the wrong one in my view, it should have been one One, however the nature of Case Histories (i.e. a 2 parter) made the choice harder.

Nights like these will form a key part of the next rights bidding for Wimbledon by the BBC, and in my view these are the big point the Beeb can use in negotiations...

Pardon my french, but so it ****ing should - this is a Brit in the premiere world tennis competition, it has a place on BBC One more than virtually any other programme this evening
Absolutely.

This situation happened a couple of years ago (Mon/Wed/Fri). As I hinted earlier, the schedule switches really added to the sense of occasion and pulled in the viewers.

1 WIMBLEDON 2009 (MON 1857) - 8.55m
2 EASTENDERS (FRI 1959) - 7.82m
3 WIMBLEDON 2009 (SUN 1331) - 7.17m
4 EASTENDERS (THU 1928) - 7.00m
5 WIMBLEDON 2009 (FRI 1344) - 6.31m
6 BBC NEWS (MON 2244) - 5.92m

Indeed, it's vastly important that we all are able to pretend to like tennis for 2 weeks then not bother watching the other 50 weeks of the year.

It's the British way!

The Guardian (on how long play can continue to...)
"Any match originally scheduled for the Centre Court will normally be completed and if necessary the roof closed for reasons of light as well as rain." Merton Council said "the noisy air conditioning" is the reason for the 11pm cut-off and that residents' associations were consulted.

Try reading what I actually said.
The nature of tennis is such that an evening schedule cannot be scheduled for as you say, as often matches are over by 8.30pm. The nature you're talking about would require a new decision by wimbledon to run two sessions.

The 11pm curfrew would make your proposal of an evening session hard to handle as a match starting at 7pm could easily run past 11pm, thus making the evening session meaningless. Who wants to watch a match for 4 hrs and not see the conclusion? - which would take place at 1pm once most people are at work...

Case Histories certainly did make it a harder choice for the BBC and I do understand why they elected to move the Formula One at that point. I can understand why programmes are bumped if something overruns - that's the nature of the beast. But when something has a scheduled spot I can't understand why they tear the schedules up. OK, preimere sports events etc. but the BBC doesn't give a stuff about tennis for the rest of the year - it's not as though Queen's gets pride of place.

To be fair ive seen more coverage of tennis on the BBC this last year than previously, i actually think of all Murray's matches should be primetime BBC1 but thats my opinion.

I wouldn't mind that - as long as they planned in advance (say schedule all of the Wimbledon primetime matches on BBC1) rather than making it up as they go along.

The sound and Picture is crap on BBC2

EastEnders at 9:00pm and My family at 9:30pm
are they really that Thick?

In theory QoS: Wimbledon special should get 0 viewers. We will see tonight how many people are incapable of using the remote!

You can't though given the nature of tennis - as I said above, an evening session would not work I'm afraid.

How can you justify wasting a potentially key sporting moment of the year on a secondary channel.

People are morons, an event on BBC One WILL get more viewers than BBC two as viewers an incapable of determining what a big match is, they need some guidance

The tennis could go on until 11pm...that'd result in the BBC3 episode being the first airing.

Talking about BBC3, the 10pm episode could see a very good figure tonight - pushing 2m maybe?

I guess Wimbeldon'd have to change their scheduling format for it to work. But BBC2 is easily accessible to everyone, and it already had tennis scheduled so...

Sorry, I'm going around in circles here.

Then in that case move tonights EastEnders to Monday and have it run Monday-Friday next week.

Alot of people on the soaps forum missed half of it and the thing is the BBC leave things so late.

I understand that the Tennis should be shown on BBC1 but i don't see why the BBC's flagship show should be moved to BBC2 at last minute

It was done years ago for a 2 week special
for the Launch of BBC3.

Thing is due to the BBC making last minute changes

People have missed EastEnders
People's recordings are messed up
People would have missed Corrie due to EastEnders late finished.

Clearly they haven't thought about the viewers at all

I think when they get to the semi final it should be shown in the evening and the final defintely instead of in the middle of the afternoon

It's a third round match Murray should get through, not the final. If people are so moronic they can't press '102' on their remote that's their problem, bit the BBC's. The 'key sporting moment of the year' will still air on a channel that is still accessible to all.

Then in that case move tonights EastEnders to Monday and have it run Monday-Friday next week.

The trouble with the five episode week is where would the fifth episode go? 8.30pm Wednesday would take an ailing comedy off the air which needs all the support it can get. They'd be vilified to glory if they clash it with Coronation Street. Airing an hour long on a Tuesday would mean Holby or Luther would have to be bumped.

Ouch for The Marriage Ref. Not much hope for that to build its audience then! I'm disappointed not to see Penn and Teller in the top ten though.

Let's try to get back to ratings and leave the squabbles to the soaps forums?

How do we think the Tennis will rate and what about EE? I'll guess at 6m for each, although the tennis will depend on how close/long the match is. It could build.

Well im sorry but they must be retards then, the EPG clearly updated, the announcer confirmed the move at 8pm and just general common sense would be to check BBC2
