I'd suggest the Mirror article is complete tripe (their TV stories tend to be very flaky compared to The Sun's or The Mail's).

Although ITV were considering a 'News Hour', I understand the idea went away a while back. Plus the failure in how they tinkered with GMTV would presumably make them less likely to fiddle with other bits of the news schedule.

However, could Adrian + Christine do a half hour 8pm show a few nights a week?

intersting quote in the Digital Spy article

Quote:
“The source continued: "BBC Breakfast is doing really well because it gives people what they want in the mornings - the news. The good thing for us is they're about to shoot themselves in the foot by shifting their very successful show up to Manchester, losing half the production team, several presenters and very possibly most of their guests.”

I may remeber that for when BBC Breakfast continues to dominate Daybreak.

and

Quote:
“"As we've learned from experiences on TV-am and GMTV, and now with Daybreak, parachuting in big stars with a huge fanfare isn't popular. In fact, it's a recipe for disaster."”

I wonder how long that attitude will last at ITV.

Nope, 2.84m has won the Monday 9pm slot before. (August 24th 2009).

Wow that's incredible, thanks for info rzt! You don't by any chance know why it was so low on that instance? Curiosity is killing me

Sirens launched lower than I thought. I had it down to just about break 2m at 10pm, but including +1 I expected it to be comfortably above the 2m mark. Slightly disappointing for Channel 4 given all the hype I think.

Nice rise for The Restaurant Inspector. Looks like this one is a keeper, a cert for a recommission now I would think.

Babies Behind Bars did poorly compared to similar documentaries that have aired in that slot.

ITV1 had Monday Monday (2.84m), while BBC1 had Can You Bank On Me? (2.35m). The Hotel Inspector on C5 also had 2.35m in the same slot.

Babies Behind Bars had 3.8m (exc +1) incidentally.

The Nadal match which ran till 9pm seems to have rated really well and dented a few things like The One Show and EastEnders which were both 5 share points lower than what they usually get. Even Corrie was a few share points lower than usual. Silent Witness rated about the same as the previous night, as Pizza said these 2-parters don't repeat well, including other shows like Waking The Dead. Babies Behind Bars rated about 1m lower than I expected, I think it partly shows that quite a few people won't watch American programmes on mainstream BBC1/ITV1 primetime - had that been a show called 'Babies in Holloway Prison' for example, I bet it'd have rated better. Quite surprising that Embarrassing Bodies didn't experience any uplift against such weak competition, I was sure it was gonna rate better than last week but it didn't happen. Looks like The Restaurant Inspector benefitted the most, up a couple of hundred thousand compared to last week and now at levels where it ought to get another series. Sirens did okay-ish, although given the promotion C4 might've hoped to make that 2m mark.

17 minutes of regional news? ITV would go down in my estimation if they were to implement this. It would be turning their back on another PSB heavy genre like they have with children's TV. Might as well hand back the Channel 3 licences whilst they're at it.

Also, one thing the ITV fans on here seem to forget, the ITV News at 6:30 is currently ITV's best performing bulletin of the day. And the gap between it and the BBC 6pm News is also the smallest. Why on earth ITV would want to destroy that is beyond me.

Furthermore, I'm not convinced having a One Show "lite" there would work. It's a BBC show through and through and wouldn't work elsewhere. I could see it tanking just like Daybreak, forcing ITV to reinstate the 6:30pm news down the track, only to lower numbers than before. Basically a repeat of what's happened at 10pm.

They used to - Dallas, Dynasty, LA Law, X Files, etc but they were big budget dramas with good looking people in them. Most of the interviewees spoke in a rather pronounced American uneducated southern accent and were recovering drug addicts with a UK voice over.
Compare that to previous weeks when the subjects were familar to the UK public and well liked.

Some encouraging figures for Ch5 there. Nice to see H&A break the 1m mark for probably the best episode of the year so far and a nice rise for The Restaurant Inspector which looks like it might follow a similar pattern to the Hotel Inspector and rise throughout its run. I'd say it's pretty certain for recomission now. It's faced some tough factual competition throughout its run so far.

Agree Zoe, Home & Away had been sharp lately with the baby George storyline. Good to see it translate into a ratings boost.

I'm not sure they'd reshuffle anything- they'd just parachute it into the 8pm slot which isn't their best and a cheap show like that could fill it well.

Sirens did decently and I think if it can remain steady it will be recommisioned, Channel 4 desperately needs another drama series because all theyve got is Shameless.

Channel 5 Daytime yesterday:

09:15 The Wright Stuff with Matthew Wright 0.32m (6.5%)
11:10 The Wright Stuff Extra with Gabby Logan 0.15m (3.0%)

Thanks to Andrew.

Excellent share for the main show. Slightly disappointing for the Extra show but it was a very hot day yesterday so I'm not sure it can be declared a flop yet.
