He will have to have at least one series with everyone calling him Sir Bruce and making awful jokes about it before he goes.

I am happy for his wife she has always deserved a medal

Why was he awarded this honour - what has he done to deserve it - can someone enlighten me ???

He has been in show bisnuiss for nearly 70 years.....now personally I dont think it should be given just for longevity but it what seems to be done.

Queen's Birthday Honours 2011:
Bruce Joseph Forsyth-Johnson (Bruce Forsyth), CBE. For services to Entertainment and to Charity. (Surrey)

It's not always to to with longevity and given some of the previous recipients of honours, I'm glad he has been knighted.

I believe Sir Bruce now picks up £400K for 3 months of Strictly, more before Recession, so he has done well for himself. Has he done well for the nation, for the culture of dance? Could anyone else have provided more feelgood, less cringe? We don't know because no-one else has tried except Ronnie Corbett. Those against Brucie have not yet come up with a feasible alternative.

He has provided a smile to millions over decades, so it appears quantity comes into it, rather like breakfast cereals and reassuringly same toothpaste in every home . No doubt his charity efforts have added up over the decades when by the age of 83 he does not really need to.

I'm not a fan of the honours system tbh. I just think that given some of the previous recipients, he should get a knighthood.

After all, he's not getting it for being the host of SCD.

OBE and MBE are usually awarded to public-spirited persons who served the community for long hours and years on an unpaid basis -- little wrong there so long as nomination and vetting is thorough.

"Arise Sir X," would seem to hark back to a more romantic era. However Salman Rushdie was knighted in 2007, and only last week a Tory life peer went to jail for fiddling parliamentary expense claims.

Yes, I'm sure his writers are desperately thinking some up, and Lady Tess will have to say " over to you Sir Brucie"
Still Bruce deserved to receive his award ahead of a lot I could mention like Sir Mick Jagger.
