Unbeatable are advertising the Grundig Xentia MW70-490 for £499, normally £850. Got good reviews at the main UK review sites. Half the price of an equivalent Sony!

It looks like a very nice set, especially for the price - I noticed it the other day (unfortunately after I splashed out on a 32in w/s - though I couldn't go back to 28in now).
I notice it's got three SCARTS and VGA in. I wonder how many SCARTS are RGB as I can't seem to find out on the Grundig site - VGA is very interesting too - my DC would've looked good on it! |

Something weird seens to have happened to some of the URLs in my last post, the BB software has truncated the middle. Anyway just go to the home pages of these review sites, do a search of Grundig then pick Xentia or MW82-490. The specsheet on the Belgian site should be easily found too.

I was also surprised at the negative Grundig comments, is it perception or based on bad experience?
Resorting to automotive analogy (where else is brand more king)? I've always associated Grundig with Audi/Mercedes, stolid, but stylish when they try, and mostly of above average quality/vfm. This is especially true on the continent where sales and brand image are higher than in the UK and they market their full range of B&O style of designer goods. In global terms they rank highly in certain specialist markets such as world-band radios. In the UK their image has probably been influenced by their marketing position in Dixons/Currys at the budget end of the market. I've always admired their "daring to be different" attitude; who else would have designed a 9.5kg short wave radio with a quality of sound on FM which blew away >95% of ghettoblasters in its day! Perhaps I'm biased Stuart |
