I went to ASDA today and nagged my mum into buying some Hershey's chocolate for a try to see what it's like and I was shocked, I started eating and thought it's not so bad and then tasted what can only be described as sick thinking I'd burped sick or something (sorry if this sounds horrible ) I tried some again later and tasted sick again, so I searched Google and apparently its something many people have said that it does indeed taste of vomit.

I gave my mother some to try and she had to spit it out

Looks like Hershey's has made it's way - good & proper - to the UK

Yes - it truly is the vilest 'chocolate' you will ever taste.

Yes its not nice. Although I do like the Hersheys cookies and cream which is white chocolate but it is very sweet.

I find the dark Hersheys chocolate is much nicer than the normal flavour.

Me too - absolutely vile! I had some in New York, and it had the same 'sick' taste - apparently that's normal

It does explain why Americans rave about our chocolate when they're here!

Seriously? How many threads does it to take for someone to explain that Hershey's is not the only chocolate in the US?

Yup, seriously! I've only been to the States once, but, because I'd heard about Hersheys, I tried it and it tasted like sick! In my job before last, we used to get a lot of visitors from the States, a lot of whom used to take back loads of Galaxy! That's my experience, sorry if you don't like it.

They'll never believe it. lol. Apparently we only have one type in this big country, or either all chocolate in the US tastes like Hersheys because 'we rave about British chocoolate'.

Next time tell them just to buy Dove when they're home, because it's the same thing as Galaxy.

My husband is British, and every time we go to visit the U.S. he buys loads of Reese's peanut butter cups. It's the novelty of it he likes.

I am sure you can get them here in this country. Do the ones over here not taste the same? Or when you novelty do you mean the novelty of bringing the chocolate home from somewhere overseas?

Not trying to be antagonistic or anything by the way, just curious

I'm certain you can, but I've never seen them. But yeah, I think it's mostly the novelty of taking something back from overseas, as he buys other stuff too, like Junior Mints. I don't really rate Hershey's and I've yet to have a British chocolate I've wanted to write home about... Swiss chocolate on the other hand is pure joy. Ritter Sport is another favorite of mine, which, shock, horror, I used to buy in the U.S. as well.

you know, i just realiz(s)ed, our boss brought back some chocolates from Japan, sort of intricately wrapped, obviously packaged for a gift as there are about 30 in this box.

I have to admit, they don't taste spectacular, sort of a soft texture with a sort of aftertaste. I'm not entirely sure whether to pronounce them the epitome of Japanese chocolate, as I've not tasted the full gamut of that country's chocolates.

I, myself, would love to try other versions before deeming Japanese chocolate soft with an aftertaste.

My Tesco sells (peanut butter cups) them on the confectionery end-of-aisle, I love them.

Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are quite hard to come by here. On a few rare occasions in the last few years I've seen the "miniatures" version retailed near where I live at small shops (and they were imports). Someone told me they saw them once at an ASDA in the London area (Ealing). But I've never seen them at Tesco or any of the major local retailers around here or in Bristol. Although it is a bit cheaper to order RPBC's online that it used to be.

Well I can understand that Novelty, so makes perfect sense. I am not a huge chocolate fan if I am honest, sometimes I fancy some but it is not often. But I do enjoy Galaxy Chocolate, to me it just tastes nice. I seriously can't stand Nestle chocolate - I used to like it but something has changed. Anyway I am babbling. So yeah I understand why you get them and bring them back.

I have seen them in both Asda and Tesco, Asda it is usually found near the tills on those shelves that are there just to tempt you into one last purchase. And Tesco there seems to be a chocolate and sweet section that is away from the confectionary aisle, on end of the aisle shelving, and this is where I always see them. This seems to be the case in various Asdas and Tescos that I have seen.

They do them in my local Morrisons and at local newsagents - not seen them anywhere else though apart from on-line. Was browsing on Amazon the other day and there was a really good value box of the stuff but it was as much again to deliver! Think they were coming from abroad so I left it.

Interesting. I go out of my way to look out for them. Maybe we're just behind in the southwest. But any that we would find are imports as they're not manufactured for distribution here

Got a Hershey's bar from Asda the other night, absolutely vile. The only time I can remember spitting out food in disgust as an adult. Usually I'll eat something even if I don't like it, just on point of principle for having paid for it and not being wasteful. But this was just too horrible, like chewing on a mouthful of sick. It's hard to believe this is apparently so popular in America.
