Anyone know what they do with props etc when they have finished with them after shooting scenes in soaps?

Also what do you think they do with the cars after etc?

Most important props are kept in storage incase they're ever needed for future use. For instance things like Hilda Ogden's 3 flying ducks, Jack Duckworth's glasses "mended" with a plaster and many other bits and bobs. Exceptional pieces are often auctioned for charity, I think one of Ena Sharples's hair nets fetched a rather large amount quite recently.

Most of the cars and vehicles used in shows are hired, for instance Sadie King's beast in Emmerdale will undoubtedly be hired, as will cars belonging to those flashier Street residents such as Mike Baldwin's jag and Dev's convertible number - so when they are no longer needed they'll be returned to the hire comapny. I think there's a chance that most old bangers might actually be bought by the production company.

Now then, I'm getting TOTALLY confused. In a posting which started on 11th August 2004 at 17:33 called "The Corrie And Emmerdale Set " you posted:

Posts: 341 Qmenster, I used to be an officer in the met but am now a camera operator.

Simple as that okay? ".

If you want to know what happens to the props then why don't you ask someone on set????

Remember, to be a good liar, you need a good memory.

I am only a camera operator and don't do anything other than operate a camera.

So no need to be too harsh both of you.

Come on Dalton! Why don't you ask one of your colleagues?

Bits of costume and props will probably be hired in from a specialist company, or will be from "stock". They'll be returned from whence they came when finished with.

Thanks Chuff, I will ask them later on. We are actually filming today so i'll ask then, I never get the chance to ask because it's so busy here at Granada Studios.

That's why I thought i'd ask here.

Being a little cynical, would you not see what they do with the props?
