Sue Cleaver is an obvious choice! She is very good with the comedy scenes, but she is even better with the dramatic scenes. I was so sad when she was crying to Steve about the way that Todd would have to live his life. She was very good during the fight night too! And those scenes where Todd told her about Karl were brilliant. She really shone like a star in those scenes!

Jesse Wallace in her prime as a Slater girl was brilliant as well! Who could forget her reliving the story of when Harry raped her when she was little and the 'man in the moon' story. Was it just a coincidence that she would eventually end up with Alfie MOON!?

Sue Cleaver I agree with, she is a first rate actress.
Jessie Wallace was good at that time in EE, now and to be fair its probably due to crap storylines she is dreadful and has never made me laugh the way Sue Cleaver has.
Liz Dawn has made me laugh over the years and cry too, especially the Christmas Terry all but sold his son Tommy his other grandparents. Bill Tarmey as Jack has done the same.

I have to say Sue Clever! She is really funny and has some brill one liners but the stuff with Todd coming out and Billy it was sad!

And Jessie was good with the You Aint My Mother stuff before she was with Alfie!!!

Sue Cleaver obviously - a soap goddess and Fred Elliot (sorry, alway spell the actor's name wrong) as well.
Probably only June Brown in EE, she a magnificent actress and can handle anything they throw at her.

Oh, just thought the Queen them all - Jean Alexander - high comedy as Hilda, but also heartbreaking at times (Stan's death *gulp* still brings tears to my eyes).

The Ferrerias are a prime example. They make me laugh at their pathetic storylines and lack of acting ability.

They make me cry when I just think of the huge amount of the Licence Fee they pocket every month

Definitely Sue Cleaver as Eileen Grimshaw. She was fantastic during Todd's coming out and the scenes between her and Todd when he said "HIs Name is Karl" were fantastic and moving. Her fight night scenes with Gail will go down as Classic Corrie, both very dramatic and quite funny at same time. Then her scenes with Steve in the cab office when she cried about how Todd will have to always show affection in private, will never be allowed to hold hands in public and will be judged on who he gets into bed with rather than the person he is, I nearly cried at those scenes as I imagine my poor mother will be having similar thoughts about me some day soon. She really is an all round good actress.

In EastEnders Jessie Wallace, especially during her telling Zoe she was her mother, that was very moving and the end on the bench when she was sobbing and all alone in the Square and she took an overdose. Truly moving EastEnders. She hasn't really done anything like that since then. Although I did like her "I'm Dirrrrty" speech to Alfie when he put his hand up at their wedding lol

But the one who can make me laugh aswell as cry in EastEnders definitely has to be June Brown (Dot Cotton). When she told the Docs last week she didn't want an operaton and wanted to live out her days as normal it brought a tear to my eye. And then watching her dance in the Vic with Jim at the end. She's made me laugh hundreds of times with her and Jim, I love when she tries to say the name of the guy who owns the launderette, Mr Popperopperopus lol And one of her most moving scenes of all time was with poor Ethel, after she'd given her the tablets to release her from her pain, I was in tears at the end of that.

Tina O'Brien as Sarah Platt is also very, very good. With each storyline she gets, she improves greatly as an actress. Im sure it wont be too long before Sarah will go down as one of the classic corrie characters. No wonder her and Bruno Langley needed a holiday after baby Billy's funeral. They put so much into it! They were both crying continuously for nearly 3 weeks and were great in their respective parts. They must have been emotionally and physically drained at the end of it all. I can't wait until Tina gets another big storyline to ger her teeth into, and i hope that Todd's exit storyline will be dramatic so Bruno can show what he can do.

June Brown - of course.

As well as Eileen in Corrie, there's also Roy. David N is a great actor, very good at comedy but can also be amazingly touching (e..g when he had to give Amy back to Tracy).

Ethel Skinner's final episode in 2000 was utterly heartbreaking. Total credit to the brilliant June Brown and legendary Gretchen Franklin, I have never been so moved as during that episode. Funny too - Ethel being carried through the Vic by the big strong boys of Walford, wearing that hillarious curly wig, whilst everyone sung happy birthday. Everyone loved Ethel.

She was really a good heart for the show in those first 15 years, a fragile lovely little old lady: I think that, if they write her better, Nana Moon could (and it's a big could) become something similar... I remember being on the verge of lump-in-the-throat when she was having her mental health problems back last year. She's lovely, but can't be used for lame-arse comedy (like that sillyness with the Leopard statue "oh, oh...yes, Alfie.... well, it's a Dog Leopard". Whatever!).

I have to agree with the comments about Sam Aston (Chesney Brown). He's such a fantastic young actor. To be able to act as he can, at 11, is an outstanding achievement and he should go on to big things. He's made me laugh often it scenes with the Battersbys and has made me cry when Cilla is horrible to him and he's so obviously hurt.

Also I think Tina O'Brien is a brilliant actress but I don't want ANOTHER big storyline involving her for a while. She is overused - due to her acting ability and the fact that her character, Sarah-Louise, is a central character who has lived on the Street since she was born. So I think they should wait a while before doing anything more involving Tina so people don't get bored of the character and can properly appreciate her fantastic acting.

As well as Gretchen Franklin and June Brown, from EastEnders, i'd say Wendy Richards has actually proved her worth in the comedy/tragedy stakes: although for years a dragon-like premonition of Lou Beale, with far too little actual colour to her performance, I think on two occasions she has shown her knack for comedy (I guess Miss Brahms shining through there... in the comedy scenes leading up to Sonia and Martins wedding I laughed for the first time in years) and the scene where she recounted the story of Mark leaping off the diving board on a holiday, after they learnt of Mark's death, was very touching.

So although she's often dismissed as a nasty, meddling old dragon, I honestly think on these occasions WENDY RICHARDS has given a very effective performance.
