iPad/Kindle Question

Can I run/charge my IPad using the USB Power adapter supplied with the Kindle?

I hope the answer is yes as I don't want to pay £25 for one.

The lead isn't the same, but the USB plus thing the lead plugs into is the same fitting. Not sure on voltage as my iPad charger is sitting on my desk at work but I just tested it with the kindle one and it does charge. Assume it's lower voltage for the kindle so I doubt it could harm it.

Why didn't your iPad come with a plug?

The iPad is arriving early next week. Does the plug come as standard?

I love the questions that are asked on forums about Tech that should come with plugs, boxes instructions etc.
The poster is probably un aware that an ipad comes with a mains plug / Charger.
Its a good thing that the Police monitor forums for info regarding stolen items. I also like the fact that within 8 seconds any posters IP address / Home address is visable to those who protect us and prosecute the guilty.

Be Warned !
Have fun with your ipad

Lol

Seriously though OP, the iPad comes with a charger as others have said. Whereas both the Kindle charger and iPad charger have USB sockets on them, the iPad charger provides considerably more wattage. So you will need one I'm afraid.

Yes, it does. You get the USB plug-in with the usual USB lead, which can be used to connect with your computer as well. I've used the USB plug to charge my Kindle with no problem. I also bought a USB plug from Maplins that was sold as universal, which suggests that they're all the same - they must convert the voltage from the mains to the sort of voltage you get from a USB port, and that would be the same for everything that charges from a USB port.

Having said that, you can't rapid charge an iPad from your computer, it takes too much power. Apple say it will trickle-charge, although I'm not convinced! In general you're better off just charging it from the mains.

I can charge my iPad using my (new) PC, but only because the front USB ports are capable of outputting more power than normal (when using my old PC, the iPad would simply say "Not Charging"). iMacs can charge iPads too, at least the newer ones can.

I still prefer to just use the wall charger though, as it's much faster.

The official iPad charger outputs 10W (5V x 2A).

I always charge my iPad from the mains. The computer will either not charge or take forever depending on the USB port I use.
