It's because the box is so good that these things are annoying. If you were perpetually wondering whether or not a programme would record you wouldn't have time to worry about the smaller niggles.”

Exactly, its so stupid that with a slight bit of effort, it could be amazing and whats annoying is everything (apart from the remote reception) can be fixed but they chose not to.

Instead they manage to make it worse but the fanbois just cant see that. They defend it like they made it themselves.

You don't press guide at all. Press schedule - you get a list of the recording events (the next one to come up for series). You don't press them together it's one after the other. Press red you get the epg instantly. That's it.

In common with pretty well all instructions

Schedule + Red means press both, Schedule/Red means one after the other.

Menu/System/diagnostics is a serial instruction not a parallel one.

We have been having a lot of issues.

Lots of failed recordings.

Wiped schedule list.

Unusable EPG

Making me think that should I get a Humax freeview HD one?

You must have a faulty box or some other problem. Touch wood not missed a schedule recording in months. Only a factory reset should wipe the schedule list. Only a guess but it sounds like a hdd problem.

All the recordings on it are fine.

Is there a disk test option anywhere?

The recording schedule is in a different partition to the video data. If I were you I would fit a new HDD and put the old disc in a cradle connected by usb and watch the recordings from there. Assuming the box is out of warranty.

First thing to try though is a factory reset, make a note of your recording schedule you will need to re-instate it.

Other than that a disc format may work but you will lose all your recordings.

I had trouble with an older version of the raydon firmware when I installed the latest firmware. The only problem I had was that it wiped the schedule list. After upgrading to the latest version, I've never had a problem. On the EPG are you using the schedule then red buttons or just the guide?

Sadly I don't know if it is a coincidence or not but since the upgrade I have noted one lock up and 2 instances whereby the box does not switch itself on ( I have it set to switch off at 23:00 and back on at 06:30)

This morning was another instance of the latter.
I hope this is just coincidence as it really has been rock solid.

There are some problems with the non-volatile version of the channel editor. Assuming you are using a current channel list (after the BBC HD DVB-S2 changes) all will be well IF you do not try and reorder channels..If you are using the volatile version then your changes will be wiped at the next housekeeping run at 03:00.

Yes, I reckon you've spent more buying your STBs, and more time fiddling with them, than most!

I suspect your set-up would be family-unusable without the harmony remote, making the Humax remote irrelevant for you.

Anyway, as others have pointed out, the guide button is basically useless now - so Humax, please bring the old functionality back - I can't see that anyone prefers the new way of doing things. Even the fanboys arguing that "it's not so bad really" aren't saying that it's better!

As for unreliability, I still haven't used it enough to be sure. The joys of moving house and building flat-packed furniture!

Cheers,
David.

I may be completely at odds with some posters here but I have absolutely no problem with the latest download.
Am I unique?

Certainly not as you will see if you look at my postings in this thread

There's at least two of us

Three - so happy to get a fix for the power cut problem - we get quite a few here in the country.
GT: it is channel 999 to see the freesat transporter signal quality - I was thinking that perhaps some of the users with thumbnail problems were caused by a signal problem with the new channel update in housekeeping?

Four
No, as inferred, I don't have any problems with the latest download. I am no Fanboy either. I have Sky, Freesat. Plain Freeview and BT Vision. I see no point in continually complaining about something that has a simple workaround.

None of the afore mentioned platforms are perfect and nobody forces any of us to use any of them.

I have seen this all before in the BTVISION forum. In the end, most of us got so fed up, we stopped posting

Yes 999 is on the freesat home transponder. I did not get thumbnail updates last night (Sig strength 100 Quality 100) so my guess is some sort of overnight hitch with the transponder or at the upload site.

FIVE

It does get irritating when those of us who will use simple workrounds are labelled as fanboys/fanbois.We are fully aware that things could be better, but it is only a major problem
to a few whingers who expect everything to be perfect.
You can call us what you like but until a better piece of kit comes onto the market I politely suggest that you grow up
and keep your unwarranted name calling to yourselves.

How about you grow up and keep out of the threads that you have no business in.

No one is expecting a perfect box but wont we dont expect is for a box with so many niggles to actually get worse with a forced update.

We get it, you have low standards now jog on.

If you mean no additional problems to the ones that are still there and are yet to be fixed then same here. It remains a pile of stinking poo but now with a bit of air-freshener sprayed over it.

Agree with the Fanboy sentiment . It gets extremely irritating. Not sure I would have gone so far as you, but in essence you are dead right. As a Freesat user you have every right to post on here. As do we all. Even if some of us beg to differ.

I think you have hit a raw nerve

You silly little man, what gives you the right to tell me that I have no business in this or other threads?
I am a humax owner so have every right.Or is it simply that you cannot accept that some of us are realists?
Looking at some of your posts and the way you express yourself suggests that my standards are considerably higher than yours
You made this personal so I responded in kind.I will not be responding further to your posts,I suggest you don't respond to mine.

We have every right to expect a working box, you have low standards, that clear to see. Youve proven it.

In one post you say I expect everything perfect, now you say I have low standards, well done for contradicting yourself in mere minutes.

I havent said anywhere Im happy with a 2nd rate anything so a nice fail there.

Shouldnt you be pretending to be a mod and try and police wandering threads somewhere?

You totally missed the point, I was talking about the thread, not the forum.

With all the problems Apple had with their phone not being able to make calls, you think 1 idiot telling everyone on the forum to go out and buy a case is helping matters when people just want the phone fixed?
