I have a Humax Foxsat-HDR box. I can't see how to view the picture when I connect a memory stick to the USB port at the front. I got as far as being able to see the USB icon on the tv screen, by going to Media, Opt+, but then was unable to select it.

Any help would be appreciated

Stick in the usb stick.

Press media and then red, select the usb device by using the left/right cursor keys.

Press the appropriate colour button for the content you want to play. Play back is the same as using the internal hdd.

With a few tweaks on the way, I made it work and watched my photos on tv. However, I couldn't repeat the process when I wanted to watch a video. Now I know the video might not be in the right format, but should it have shown up on the screen any way, even if it wouldn't play? Every time I tried to choose video from the menu bar at the top, it reverted to HDD

Only video files having the three required files

xxxx.ts xxxx.hmt xxxx.nts

appear in the media list, anything non compliant is ignored.

AV2HDR will build the three files for you from suitable source content.
