How much Lord Sugar likes to bring up the subject of how he started his business as a toddler with only 5p in his pocket?

I mean he's done it in all series, but this series takes the biscuit. I swear he manages to do it at least twice in every episode.

I agree with you LorSirAllun is harping on about how he started making his money far more than previously.

Maybe it is due to the prize is now beginning a business, rather than a position in his companies.

Oh yeah he should be proud of it, but he seems to bring it up even when the topic has nothing to do with it.

He has said it in every series maybe once or twice a series, but this season he has said it in virtually every single boardroom meeting or pre-task description.

He used to say he was 16 when he started his business, but he said he was 17 this week, he doesn't even know!

"This week's task- you're gonna be selling art to the art world. One famous artist was Van Gogh- and as you know, I started Amstrad out of the back of a van 45 years ago..."

I suppose it's because the prize this year is starting up a business with him - he has to throw it in more.

He's getting old and repetitive I reckon

You don't hear Branson waffling on about telephone boxes do you? then again he bangs on about not knowing the difference betwee credit and debit quite often so I suppose it amounts to the same thing

I will be counting tonight. He probably won't do it now.

And did Al say he was an engineer who knows electronics inside and out? (or was that Nick in the after show)

All he knows is how to make the cheapest possible electronics crap work, just.

he certainly bigs himself up, I'm surprised he didn't work down the mines from age 3 to 14 then go straight to selling fake watches from a stall onto designing world class computers made from recycled calculators and 13" ex MOD radar screens all while showing Bill Gates how to create DOS and then Windows (or Perspex as Alan called it, being cheaper an all.)

Sugar may have started his business from scratch and has evidently made a success of himself.

What he didn't do was was start a business, the nature of which was decided by someone else, in two days and without being allowed to do any basic research on the market or current pricing.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he didn't make quite a few false starts before he got going.

Let's face it, he was still making false starts when he came up with the Amstrad emailer. (Not that that should necessarily be held against him - you have to try some things that don't work if you want to come up with a hit.)

I see he brought it up again last night.

I see he managed to get it in there again last night.

I actually said to my partner before it happened he'll mention the fact that he couldn't speak any languages when starting his own business and he did.

Although his age when he started keeps changing, once it was 16, other times 18 and tonight he was 17.

Do I smell a little BS Lord Sugar?

I noticed that. I've definitely heard him say '16'. I thought he said '18' last night.

The discrepancy may be because he was doing a Del-boy at 16 and it wasn't until a couple of years later, when he'd got a bit of capital together, that he needed to deal with foreign suppliers.

He certainly does bang on about it but as getting youth interested in business (and if you want to give him the benefit of the doubt), I suppose that's understandable.
