Another thing I've been wondering is that for singers in the semi-finals, are they allowed to choose their own song as long as it's alright with the producers? And how do producers choose songs for acts? How does it work?

Firstly they put together a short-list of acts they might call back. If you are short-listed they will ring you up and ask you lots of questions before they finally call to say you are through to the next round.

In all seriousness though, if I were you, I would put in your application, keep practicing and take each step as it comes and just carry on with your life as normal in between.

Well i'm afraid that I don't know the answer to that one. All I can say is that you are getting many stages too far ahead of yourself. Just concentrate on what you might do at the first round and put your all into that. You need to think how to make yourself stand out from the crowd.

Children under 18 MUST be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. A legal guardian, if not mother/father, must bring legal documentation proving custody with them. (N.B. grandparents are not necessarily legal guardians unless they have custody).

MUSIC:
Any backing tracks or music to accompany your act must be provided by you on either CD or Mp3 player.

SINGERS:
Please prepare a verse and a chorus only. You may sing either with or without a backing track. If you do wish to sing to a track you must be able to provide us with the title of the track and who wrote it.

BANDS / MUSICIANS:
Please be aware that no instruments are provided. As there is limited audition time we cannot allow setup of large instruments like drums etc. You can bring any small instruments with minimal setup (ie guitars, flute, keyboards etc) and audition as usual. Bands/musicians who use drums and other large setup items must bring along a video or DVD of your performance. Please pick your best performance to put on the video and bring this with you to your audition. The whole band should come dressed in performance outfits.

COMEDIANS/VENTRILOQUISTS/DANCERS/MAGICIANS/JUGGLERS etc:
As you will have limited time please prepare the best part of your routine. If your act requires music please bring a CD or Mp3 copy, along with the title of the track and who wrote it.

Ok, i'm no expert on this, I'm not a singer and neither am I a computer expert, but what I think you need to do is download the track you wish to sing, copy it and delete the bits you don't need and download the edited version onto an MP3 or MP4 player. Have you ever been on the auditions discussion forum on unreality shout? You might get better advice on there if you join up and start a thread. There are lots of threads from people auditioning for the x-factor at the moment, i'm sure that someone there could help you with this. Well, thanks for the advice but the Audition Junkies board for BGT threads is kind of dead, but i'll make a thread later on.

Do not expect them to have any up-to-date equipment, my daughter took a CD as a backing track and they had no way of playing it. Also expect to wait hours on the first audition and if they're running behind time no interest in your audition at all. It's a lot down to luck! There are thousands of cute kids at the auditions and they seem more keen on everyone dancing, singing and looking like they're having a wonderful time rather than listening properly to each auditionee.

And this thread is dead but might as well bring it up because it's getting closer to the auditions. It might change this year, but when Ant and Dec are interviewing acts before their audition, I think it'd be better if they did them outside, to make the large audience look like the auditionees a lot more.

And shouldn't they do a bootcamp? To put the pressure on or make the acts more noticable for the live shows.

And for the semi-finals, does anyone know how preparation is done? Like choosing songs, rehearsing etc.

The auditions are conducted in December and January, and it's freezing cold, that's why it's all done indoors. The X-Factor is filmed in spring/summer.

That's not the experience we had, we took a cd which they had no problem playing

Well I contacted BGT about the audition process and they said the following:


So now we know how these singers choose what they want to sing, but still we get the judges comments that say 'that song wasn't right for you'.

They did reply pretty quick to my emails, so anyone else have any thoughts about the audition process?

I auditioned a few months ago, they said they would get back to me in February or something, but the auditions are next month and they have started telling people already, when should I expect to hear something?

You should expect to hear something a few weeks before if they are putting you through.
