I love Bet Lynch and Julie Goodyear... long may she reign.

Julie always came across to me as someone who acted very high and mighty. As if she was someone sort of oscar winning actress with a career like Maggie Smith or Judi Dench. When in actual fact, she was an average soap actress who was essentially playing herself and failed to ever establish herself from one character. Corrie fans and the press constantly praising her and labelling her a Legend likely never helped her ego either.

OMG! How strange, I just watched this for the first time last night on Youtube..
Loved Bet and thought it was sad Julie didn't stay for a while longer last run.

What is even stranger and sadder is I kept looking at Piers Morgan and thinking how really hot he was and how I would.............................................

Never thought that before, ever!

She knew it would be tough, so decided to jump.”

I was thinking more of the cast selling stories about her.

I don't blame anyone at the show for her being unable to cope with the schedule but I do find members of the cast cashing in on her misfortune disgraceful.

My mistake, and agree totally.

What goes on behind the scenes should stay there.

It's so unfortunate what happened to Bet/Julie regarding her return. Nobody can deny she's an all-time classic character and one of the street's best, but unlike other legends here was somebody who actually WANTED to come back.

I know this is all easy to say in hindsight, but they should have eased her in gently. They also shouldn't have held her quitting against her. Instead they should have said "Ok, that didn't work out very well for any of us. Let's work on a way to bring you back more successfully" and came up with a plan to get Bet back on the street in a way that Julie could cope with. I'm not saying one rule for her, another for everyone else, but if Julie couldn't handle so much work, then why not make her an impact character (like Morag on Home and Away), bring her in for guest stints, give her storylines, then write her out again.

I imagine she must be very difficult to work with. At the end of the day, no character is bigger than the show and we all need to remember that.

I know Julie is not everyone's favourite person, but I have to say this was an interesting interview.”

Thanks for posting this

And thanks for uploading it. I haven't seen this since it first aired.

Also, it was reported that she sent her resignation to Corrie bosses via fax - hardly the classiest move.”

There was loads written at the time about Julie's return and what did or didn't happen. Obviously the production schedule was too much for her but what was also suggested at the time was that she couldn't get her head around the fact that the hierarchy that was there when she started out had been phased out. Back in the day on Corrie and also on Crossroads with Noele Gordon, there was a pecking order with older, more prominent actresses being addressed as Ms Speed or Ms Phoenix and having their own chairs in the green room that nobody else ever dare sit in. Julie seemed to think that the younger cast would treat her with the same respect when she returned to "save the show" but it appears that they didn't give a toss who she was or at least were indifferent to her. She was just another actress on the show to them.

There's a documentary (or at least part of it) on YouTube where the Corrie producer from 1987-91, David Liddiment, interviews Julie and makes reference to how demanding she could be.

They did apparently the whole Blackpool week a year later with her Liz and Jim McDonald to make up for the whole 2002 comeback apparently
