We all know that vinyl keeps creaking along!. What other electronic devices could make a comeback when pc related goods have sprinted ahead, overstepped itself and fallen! ?. My bet goes to film cameras and magnetic tape, what do you think?.

There are many technologies that haven't actually gone away but are mainly used by professionals.

Decent Hi-Fi.

I'm seeing quite a few 30-Somethings who were the first generation iPod buyers coming back for something better than crappy docks and PC speakers. Quality never goes out of style.

I'm not so sure about tape though. The gear is available cheap which always helps. But is there enough blank media widely available to support a resurgence?

Crystal Set Radios (when we run out of power).

Whats all this modern stuff, spinning disc TV Logie Baird style - ooer.

12" monochrome valve TV's with a dirty great magnifying glass to make it look like a 17".

On reflection I think I will stick with PC's that have the power of a previous generations computers large enough to fill a room costing next to nothing.

Anyone want to go back to a dog looking down a large trumpet like thing with a steel needle floating on a shellac disc driven by clockwork.

Lots will have a affinity with crt TV's, they ain't coming back with HD TV imagine a 50" CRT, you would need a fork lift to move it.

As for linear recording kit like cine and audio tape forget it. Anyone who has ever tried to edit such content compared to non linear editing with digital kit will say never again.

By the way old enough to remember the above (may be not the spinning discs)

The spinning disc is already back...
It carries the polarized filters for 3D cinema projectors (our local cinema had a behind-the-scenes opening on Heritage Day and we got to see the film reels, splicing table as well as the digital projector and HDD playback system).

CD's (well i know there are still some, but close to death i would say)

Mac OS "Classic" - rather than OS X.

Analogue terestrial tv (but keep freesat/sky/cable digital)

that is what progress is. newer and better

-----
however, if we run out of petrol, we may have to go back to older forms of transport.
and if transport costs get to high, we may see less imported food. more carrots and parsnips

It's somewhat depressing that sound quality has gone backwards since CD, nobody really cares about it any more, it's all iPods and MP3s and other lossy compression, normally through crappy earphones

It's not about progress, it's about fashion and old tech having retro chic.

I can't see this happening at all. As a Mac user, I think OS X and iOS (what's used on iPhones and iPads) will eventually merge. That seems to be happening already with Lion and the upcoming Mountain Lion. I know some people collect old (pre-OSX) Macs though.

no, but progress represents the mainstream

retro stuff will always be a niche market

crt tv's
vinyl
tape

etc

More's the pity, and Windows 8 looks like MS is going the same way.

The keyboard/mouse/keyboard shortcuts is more than fine for desktop pcs, I don't like gestures etc adding just for the sake of it

Retro styling is not the same as retro tech. Fashion and styling always comes back into fashion but just because a DAB radio has an art deco casing doesn't mean the technology inside is from the 1920's.

Yeah there's a discussion on it in the Computing forums and some of them don't like the new Metro interface. I'm still using OSX Snow Leopard as I didn't like the iOSification of Lion and I doubt I'll be upgrading to Mountain Lion either.

I got Lion because it was free for me as I'd just bought a new iMac a few weeks back. But it shows where Apple's heart now lies. Needless to say I haven't bought the multi-gesture trackpad

My Mac's a laptop (Macbook Pro) so I have the trackpad built in, but when I'm sitting at a desk with it I prefer to use a cheap USB mouse. Do you like the iMac so far?

Yep, just want OSX to keep its own identity, but I think Apple have other ideas!

I couldn't agree more.

The amount of people who'se idea of hi-fi is listening through iphone speakers, or stupid tinny little ipod docks, these days

I will always have a proper hi-fi system.

even a small micro system will do in comparison.
