From Broadcast:

Quote:
“UKTV is replacing its Freeview plus one channel Dave Ja Vu with paid-for lifestyle channel Really.

Really, which launched in May 2009 to target young women with shows such as Tool Academy, Bizarre ER and Snog, Marry, Avoid, will bolster UKTV’s free-to-air presence from 2 August.

It will join existing Freeview channels Dave and Yesterday, which respectively cover the entertainment and factual genres for UKTV.

Really will air from 8am-2am and continue to be available on Sky and Virgin Media.

Darren Childs, chief executive of UKTV, said there would be further investment in the channel further to the shift in distribution.

“We’ve already got the two leading channels in the genre – Home and Good Food. By securing a free-to-air slot for Really and investing considerably in its content, we are confident UKTV will continue to dominate the genre,” he said.

The channel is managed by Clare Laycock, interim director of lifestyle and channel head of Really, with its shift to Freeview overseen by UKTV’s interim controller Christian Drobnyk. ”

Great news! One less +1 and one more proper channel.

When I read the thread title I was expecting it to be a joke or a 'could this happen?' so was pleasantly surprised!

Not a channel that appeals to me, but I think it's better to use it for something different like this than the +1 channel that it currently is now.

Do we know when this is going to happen?

Really will arrive on Freeview at 8am on Tuesday 2nd August.

This is REALLY good news (excuse the pun!). Even though Dave Ja Vu has been useful in that catch up on a programme missed on Dave, but the slot should be given to even more programming that maybe neccessarily not be shown on terrestrial TV before; although the programmes as mentioned in the article have. As we can see from Dave, the 'made by Dave' strand of programmes such as Al Murray's Compete for the Meat, we may see in the future, 'made by Really' or on similar lines for a female audience - running in competition with ITV2 (& Sky Living - but that's not on Freeview).

One possible persuasion and attractive selling off the 2am - 4am hours, potential space for an extension for Adult Blue or maybe Big Deal 2? (As Adult Blue carries JCM Direct already).

So, we wait to see the Ofcom licence for Really and we can also wait to see where Yesterday +1 will go. I agree with previous speculations, where it would replace ITV4 on Mux D/ARQ B.

Really is to be on LCN 20; taking previous Channel One/Virgin 1/FTN slot on the EPG and vacating LCN 25 - possibly for Yesterday +1?

How does Really get to have LCN 20? Surely under the EPG rules (DMOL LCN Policy) as a new channel it should be allocated LCN 49, the first available LCN at the end of the genre?

Brilliant news, that makes quite a few channels to switch from pay recently; Film4, Challenge, Dave. Strengthening the content availiable is great. Now all we need is more channels like this and an EPG reshuffle but that probabaly wont take place unil the end of digital switchover.

but is audience share is 0.0% isn't it so no wonder they want to boost audience figures.

It must be to do with being an associated channel with Dave and Yesterday.

Associated channel. Look at DMOL rules www.dmol.co.uk

I'm afraid that Really will inherit Dave ja vu's low resolution and audio format 544x576 & 128kbps joint compared to Dave's 720x576 & 192kbps stereo.

Also this launch explains why Dave ja vu was temporarily replaced with TBA before it was moved to Mux D the same day. I'd wager that TBA was either Really or Yesterday +1.

I also think that TBA was held up by ITV4 not moving to Mux 2 because the public teletext allocation has still not been removed. That is why Yesterday +1 has not launched yet.

For Freeview this is really good news. But unfortunately isn't a channel for me. Would be a little sad to see Dave Ja Vu go. Half decent channel to have when there's nothing else on.

At least we still have Dave

The thing is, Dave is a bit like Dave Ja Vu in itself because on a night it will repeat the same 3 or 4 programmes over again!

Looking forward to seeing what 'Really' has to offer, it's not a channel I'm familiar with at all.

If that's the case for applying for free to air slots; the next contender could be Blighty?

May 2011 Audience Share BARB results:
Dave 0.8% (on all three platforms)
Yesterday 0.7% (on all three platforms)

GOLD 0.5% (Sky, VM, TUTV & more)
Watch 0.4% (Sky, VM)
Alibi 0.3% (Sky, VM)
Dave Ja Vu 0.3 % (on all three for now) highest +1
Alibi +1 0.1% (Sky, VM)
Eden 0.1% (Sky, VM)
GOLD +1 0.1% (Sky, VM, UPC)
Good Food 0.1% (Sky, VM)
Home 0.1% (Sky, VM, TUTV & more)
Good Food +1 0.1% (Sky, VM)
Watch +1 0.1% (Sky, VM)
Eden +1 0.0% (Sky)
Home +1 0.0% (Sky, VM)
Blighty 0.0% (Sky, VM)
Really 0.0% (Sky, VM and soon to be on Freeview)
Yesterday +1 0.0% (Sky, VM and soon to be on Freeview)

Having said that, the more platforms the channels are on the more audience share they receive. However, there must have been debated whether to risking Really by funding subscription only, free to air funding by ads only or as we see from Dave & Yesterday, subscription only on two platforms and free to air on another.

I think the 'associated' channel link to justify being allocated LCN 20 is very tenuous. Going by this, you could say that any pair of channels from the same broadcaster were 'associated' as long as they fell into the same genre classification regardless of what they actually broadcast.

This is bad news. May aswell just remove the channel now imho.

LCN20 is allocated but LCN25 will be vacated perhaps for Yesterday +1.

Yeah but Channel 4 have used associated channel links to get Film4 down to slot 15 on the EPG. And the BBC when BBC Parliament moved from 85 to 81 two months after the ITV News Channel closed.

Really - another channel for my skip list.

I personally would have preferred to keep Dave Ja Vu (I use Dave for filler, if there's just a short amount of time before a programme I really want to watch on another channel, and Dave Ja Vu if I prefer the programme on that channel), but I know others will appreciate Really, so it's probably a good idea to keep ITV on their toes at least.

Though is there really more demand for Yesterday +1 than Dave Ja Vu? I'd expect Dave Ja Vu to move, and Yesterday +1 not to launch. That's just my opinion, though.

They probably claimed PSB status as well to achieve this which the DMOL policy caters for.

Personally I think it's good news.

I don't get really in my current Sky pack. There's always been a gap in lifestyle channels since UK Bright Ideas closed.
