Just heard that the original htc desire WILLNOT get the gingerbread 2.3 update! This is due to lack of memory in the desire and HTC can't put both htc sence and 2.3 onto the limited memory of the phone.

Root, install clockworkmod, download one of the many 2.3 ROMs, flash the ROM. Enjoy the full potential of your phone.
