Susan Ma's Company
According to Companies House Tropic Skin Care Ltd was incorporated in January 2011, but, Susan's Linkedin profile, and website, gives the impression that she has been a director since June 2007. She must have been self employed before Jan 2011 in reality.
Won't this cause her problems at the interview stage - assuming she gets there?. She has no way of proving her business acumen if the interviewers can't see how she paid her way thru university, paid off her mums mortgage and bought etc. etc.. Thoughts? |

The Tropic brand has had several incarnations from what I understand. It started as a market stall, then got sold in shops and only recently became the more professional looking 'brand' that is now. So she has had a company for serval years but it has taken different forms.
The back history of the company is actually fully disclosed on the website, so it's not some big secret: http://www.tropicskincare.com/static/Our_Story |

If her company was a small, sole trader before then she wouldn't be an official company director would she, just an official 'director; ie head of the company? I don't think her company is massive yet but clearly its developing.

No. She'd be self employed and as such the only person that knows how successful she is is HM Revenue & Customs. It's highly unlikely that she's going to produce a copy of her accounts and tax return at the interview stage.

I like Susan but I now want her to take the bull by the horns and say what she thinks more and I totally agree with her when she said that because she is the youngest the others think that she is the easiest person to take into the boardroom and to get rid of. So Susan now needs to be PM and show that she has got some balls and speak her mind!

How did Susan make a success of her business without ever having to pitch?
And on the subject of pitching, she point blank refused to do it, so why did she pretend she put herself forward? The others were right, she changes history in the boardroom (which has now become a Nick/Susan love-in!) |

I agree that she completly refused to put herself forward for the pitch and they all seemed to make Jim do it. To the OP she must have operated as a sole trader before coming a ltd. |

She's in the beauty business so I think customers would just go to her shop to get treatments and she'd probobaly just order supplies over the phone so she probobaly wouldn't need to do pitches.
I agree that she completly refused to put herself forward for the pitch and they all seemed to make Jim do it. |

Yes, but to be honest none of them wanted to pitch. Zoe nor Glen and even Jim did not, but Jim had no choice because he was PM. I still think that there is more to come from Susan. At the moment she is being intimidated by the others because they are older, especially Zoe!

is she not really just an Avon lady?
cant believe that she is really the one in charge of a business. the idea that susie is getting bullied is a joke, she would disagree with you if you said the sky was blue and then claim that she didnt. the clip on the you're fired show when she said glen's ideas were rubbish was like the pot calling the kettle black |

I highly doubt she will make it to that stage anyways, every time her time loses they'll bring her in because they all see her as the weak link and sooner or later Lord Sugar will just have enough. |

LS has more or less just tweeted that about Susan. Jim should have had more sense than to bring her in the board room. He really should have been fired for this task.

The back history of the company is actually fully disclosed on the website, so it's not some big secret: http://www.tropicskincare.com/static/Our_Story It doesn't give proper company registration and contact details. http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/pro...ationery.shtml More evidence that she's little more than a betterware chancer than a proper business owner. |

Company No. 07507729 according to Companies House, and the address given is most likely just a Registered Address forwarding service that you can pay a few pounds a year for - you can tell because if you google the address / post code there are quite a few different companies using the same address. It's also a residential house if you check it out on Google Streetview, rather than a warehouse or office where you might expect a proper cosmetics company to hang out.
I don't see anything wrong with that! And makes her company seem very good if anything. |
