I liked the visiting friends thing. As someone earlier* said, it was a reward for the viewer as well.

Joan's granddaughter was particularly good. And I loved the Ood "The universe will sing you to your sleep" reminded me of Hamlet "Flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest".

Edit * 2shy2007 said it - just checked

I agree.

The Master stabbing 10 in the face with the Docs sonic would of been a better send off.
You consistently produce the least entertaining posts on this forum. Congratulations.

I thought it was nice to see Ten get his 'reward'- it wasn't just nipping off to see his friend, he saved three lives, gave Donna and her husband a luxury life (let's face it, you've got to give the man one lottery cheat ) and saw the girl he loved (however much it annoyed me that he did) one last time. He did, in short, what many of us would like to do if we had a time machine to fix those last things before we go.

I think you mean "would have been"

It's very trying, having to read unpleasant posts. When they are semi-literate also, it is doubly unpleasant.

I hope you realise my comment was a micky take of people like Tyson. Like I say, the forum needs [sarcasm] tags.

I apologise, al. I didn't realise it was sarcasm, I'm afraid though I was taken aback as it seemed unlike you.

Sorry for being nasty. I still like you.

It must be time for bed for me.

Thats ok, i'm not given to making comments like that unless I get really annoyed at people.

I still like you too.

*hugs*

Now just need to make friends with outside again...

I would have preferred him to go out valiantly, saving the Earth in the process.
I hope 11 goes out this way when they time comes (which hopefully isn't soon)

Aww bless, I didn't think I would be pulled up on an internet forum by a Spelling and Grammar Nazi, you must have your work cut out for you on here then. I had not (or is that hadn't? ) realised that DS was the bastion, the premier forum of the display of English language.

I hope you realise my comment was a micky take of people like Tyson. Like I say, the forum needs [sarcasm] tags.
Elaborate on the "people like Tyson" bit?

For all intensive purposes just incase it escaped your tiny and fragile little minds, that my comment about the sonic was a joke. Just to clarify.

He had already saved the Earth - again - and then gave his life to save one little old man. He didn't just get killed whilst doing something big and important that he could have survived - he saved Wilf knowing that it would definitely kill him to do so. He didn't dive in front of a bullet to save the Queen or die rescuing some drop-dead gorgeous girl - or a kitten. He saved a man who probably only had a few years left anyway - a complete nobody to everyine except a handful of family and friends.

He also knew that it would mean him dying a slow painful death - alone and unmissed.

How much more heroic could he be?

Aah, you seem to share my issue of needing [joke] tags. If thats the case, and it was a joke, I apologise.

C'mon seriously like they would show something like that anyway? come on give me a break here, I want to keep the 6.15-6.45pm slot. Not push it past 10pm.

If I want my fix of bizarre murders I watch CSI Miami.

And yes it's late and like many I get grumpy at this time of night, so I bid you all adieu. I hope I didn't offend anyone here, it was not my intention and I apologise to those I did offend with my bizarre/bad taste humour.

**edit** we really really do need [Joke] tags here, desperately.

I would have rather had him regenerate at the end of Journey's End instead of dragging it out over a year of very poor "specials" and ending on a story that was overly long and drawn out.
That's what I'd have liked, too. In fact, I'd have liked him to actually have regenerated during the "false regeneration" of The Stolen Earth. That would have been one hell of a shocker to have had a new Doctor in the finale of a season.

For all intensive purposes
Oh I hope that was a sarcastic joke about the "grammar police," as its a real pet hate of mine. It is "intents and purposes." For all of your intents and all of your purposes, this is what the whole conversation boils down to.

A purpose that is intense really has no use as a phrase to bring about the ultimate point of a topic.

Sorry for the rant, but that's one "fake phrase" that drives me up the wall. i guess I need a holiday - too stressed out, clearly!

Without the f*cking cry-baby "I don't want to go" line... ruined 10 for me, because in the end, he was just a coward.
I don't think Ten was a coward. The problem was that the actor had become bigger than the part and RTD allowed this to get into the script.

No, and yes. My problem was that it IS in character. It ruined 10 for me, and i hate that line.

Quoted for the reason that it's probably the best post in the thread.

This. Sure, he railed a bit at Wilf for going in, but it was really recognising the similarity: neither Wilf nor the Doctor would hesitate to go into that chamber to release another person.

Personally, I get a bit bored of the whole 'raising the stakes' at the end of each series. We're going to destroy the earth! We're going to destroy the whole of reality! We're going to not just destroy the whole of reality, but make it never have existed! Saving Wilf (who couldn't love him!) was an act of personal, private heroism that I appreciated much more than Earth-peril. It looks like this series will end on the same, personal note, which suits me down to the ground.

Just one more point to add- although the Doc didn't want to die, he may have transmitted some desires of who he WANTED to be into his new incarnation- look at the hubris, dismissing Yuri and Mina(?) at the end of Waters of Mars, and 11's 'Funny, I've never once met anyone who wasn't important' line. He learnt his lesson, and didn't want to go, just to be back how he was.

RTD's Doctor was a deeply troubled man - wracked with guilt over his part in the Time War and torn by his position as last of the Time Lords. He was introspective and self-absorbed to the point where even a few episodes before that, he'd almost have been glad to get it all over and regenerate.

What RTD did was effectively remove that burden for Moffat and the next Doctor - he gave us back a Doctor who wanted to live rather than just get by from day to day. In one line - he told us that the Doctor has finally come to terms with his personal demons and wants to live again.

I liked the former companions visit, hated the last words but can live with them, what I think should have been done differently is when Ten is talking to Rose, he should have said "I bet this year's gonna be fantastic", just as a nod to Nine, bringing the RTD era full circle, rather than the 'I bet you're gonna have a really great year" we actually get.

I just wish we could get Tennant back to film this, so they can put it on my End of Time DVD, as it gets to me every time when it doesn't happen

The only thing wrong with Ten's departure was that it didn't happen sooner.
Preferably about ten minutes into The Christmas Invasion.

Great post. It would be nice if people would read this and alter their views a bit about Ten's demise, and the true nature of heroism.

Edit re Abomination's point about the "fantastic" thing - we've talked about this before, and as you know, I agree totally

He was right there-on both points.

Well, he could have tried not whining like a six year old girl for starters.
