Nick Hewer despises him and rightly so
You're right, I've never seen Nick display such visible distaste for an Apprentice candidate before.

However, I could tell from Lord Sugar's reactions in the boardroom that he has a sneaking regard for Jim.

I'm bemused by the reaction to Jim, because if, like me, you're from Northern Ireland, he's not unusual.

I find him quite sinister, the problem is he reminds me of someone I know who was very charming in public but it turned out he was incredibly controlling and abusive (emotional not physical) to his wife.

It's unfair/irrational and Jim probably isn't like that at all but the resemblance (in looks and manner) is creepy.

I agree ... he comes across as 100% presentation, revealing nothing about his true self. Gives me the creeps.

I can't deny I'm still faintly intrigued to see him with his shirt off, though. Purely for research purposes.

True. I don't see why so many people are surprised.

People just hear his Ulster accent and think "oh Aggressive". Some people need to get over it. Jim FTW.

Although what can you expect? As this is a show primarily for entertainment.

and feel free to disagree...
He effectively called Nick a liar in the boardroom. Hardly the behaviour of a hero in Apprentice terms. He was lucky not to have been fired on the spot!

Don't you remember Debra - series 5, and she very nearly made the final.

Is Jim on The Apprentice to gain some type of hero status?

Besides, who is Nick?

Can it not be insinutated by anybody that he might not be telling the truth?

He is one of Sugar's advisers who follows the teams around acting as his 'eyes and ears'.

Not unless you want to risk the wrath of Sugar.

It happened in a previous series that one of the candidates was rude to Margaret and Sugar went berserk. Unfortunately it was so badly edited it was never clear what the culprit had actually said.

I know who Nick is: I meant it in a facetious way.

In hindsight, you are quite right, it's definitely not a good idea to do such a thing, but I still maintain that Jim (or any of the others) are not there to be heroes.

So did I.

A bit silly, I know.

Indeed not.

I'm still not sure about Jim. You have to remember that this is a game - albeit a serious one (for the people involved at least). It involves the candidates being put under enormous pressure and dropped into an extremely odd environment where they are in direct competition with the people with whom they need to cooperate.

Some people come up with a game plan that makes them look unpleasant (or useless) in one way or another whereas in the 'real' world they can be perfectly nice, competent, people.

Why? Because he dared to dispute a - from his point of view - false assessment of one of Sugar's assistents?

He stood up for himself and he was right to do so. Most people don't go against Karren and Nick for strategic reasons. Karren called him 'passive-agressive' which was completely off the mark.

I felt they were both unfairly attacking him. The failure of the task was down to Jim but the way it was worded was almost personal.

Technically he was telling the truth, but in such a way that he was really putting the boot in as far as Jim was concerned. This has happened so often now that it seems personal.

I like Jim he comes across as a decent guy and i hope he wins it, i think Sugar likes him to so if he can do well now between the tasks and get to the final he will win it. He can stand up for himself thats for sure and he doesnt lack confidence either. I said it from the start that he would win it and will stand by it just as i predicted Stella would win last year. I predict Suzi will get fired on wednesday it would appear now that everyone is walking all over her and she cannot really stick up for herself even if she does run her own business look at the way jim took her apart in the board room callin her bambi that was classic.

I love Jim -- he's a true Slytherin and I can't wait to hear what persuasive utterance next falls from his mouth when it's opened. He's quite a skilful manipulator, and that has its merits in a business environment. The hot accent also helps.

I dislike Jim Intensely. He tries to make out he's a silk purse when he's a sows ear. His mouth is hanging open half the time and I just wish I was on whatever team he's in to shut him up and squash his mealy mouthed utterances. I sincerely hope that he's the next one to get the bullet.

Jim can't be fired a moment too soon as far as I'm concerned. He outstayed my welcome on week one.

The only things he's been good at have been blagging, BS-ing, menacing and intimidating, and he's not as entertaining or strangely likeable as similar contestants have been in the past.

...and another thing. I agree that Jim could talk all the legs off the household cavalry horses, (something close to MY level of chatability) but in business, you have not only to persuade people to your way of thinking (at times), you have to make sure they're happy with what you've persuaded them to do or think. If,on reflection, that person is unhappy about being fooled or manipulated, they aren't going to deal with you again in a hurry. Hot air is only good for making balloons rise...trust me
ps. Never trust anyone with either 1) a slack mouth ie; Jim. 2) a drawstring mouth ie; Nick, and one of the girls on one of the teams, memorable only for her mean- looking mouth.

Firstly, why should he have listened to Susan on the name. All she said was "I don't like it" she didn't say why it was a bad name or offered any reasoning so there wasn't any reason to listen to her. She did it to come up with a safety net, and luckily for her, it succeeded. Secondly, Jim did change his tact on the discounting after the first pitch when it didn't work. Whether that was up to listening to Susan or his own initiative we don't know. I'm just saying the point of yours that I highlighted is only founded with hindsight.
Ater watching the programme , before the board room I was aware Susan did not like the name , no matter how she said it.

The point about discounting the price is that Susan did suggest that and hence she was correct.

All I am saying is that he doesn't listen, if he was listening he would have realised Nick is really not on his side and he would be making plays to mend that fence .

He also did not listen in fairness to Zoe when she questioned his choice of cover shot.

He can talk the leg off a donkey but needs to learn to listen more

Interesting viewpoint.

I thought that she demolished Jim in the boardroom.

True, it required Nick to do what he's there for, i.e. act to state the facts when it is one persons word against another and one person, Jim in this case, is lying.

She certainly surprised him. He did his 'startled chicken' impression.
