1. Time--Danielle is 19 years old and in her first professional role in a show EVER, and it's a major West End lead. She seems to be an introvert as well. As an introvert myself, I know that suddenly being bombarded with demands from strangers every which way would completely overwhelm me. I'm amazed that she's able to communicate with the fans at all. Also, we don't know what goes on in her days. From what I can see, she is crazy busy, and I only know from what I see online like Twitter, and stuff everybody knows like her being in Oz. She's got a) a full-time job in a show b) lots of press attention/interviews/publicity/etc. c) probably tons of fan mail and d) a life, with family and friends that she would like to spend time with, in addition to probably wanting some time to herself when she can get it.
2. Other performers/Celebrites--I wouldn't compare Danielle to what other performers do because everyone is different. Some do more than Danielle does in terms of contact with fans, but some do a lot less. It's up to them what they are comfortable with and what they think they can handle.
Also, other celebrities don't necessarily run their own fan pages. I know of several that are run by friends and/or agents of the performers, because very few performers have enough time to regularly update all these fan pages and websites. I've noticed that Danielle still posts on Twitter, for instance, so maybe she's decided that that's all she can handle at the moment. She has been very cooperative with me with the Q and A's and photos for the forum, but I always tell her that she is not obligated to help us and to let me know if it ever gets to be too much. If she feels like updating her fan Facebook again, that would be great, but I think we should appreciate what we do get. To me anyway, she's been nothing but helpful and gracious, She does appreciate the fans. I know that for a fact, but she can't be everywhere at once or talk to everyone at once.
3. Fan Questions on Twitter--I know I can't stop fans from sending her questions on Twitter, but my hope is that publicizing the Q and As on the forum and the fact that she actually answers the questions (I just put two more up today) will encourage people to put them on the forum instead of bombarding her with them. There is nothing wrong with fans tweeting her--I do it sometimes as well. It's fun that she tweets about her life, and sometimes she tweets about things that I and other fans want to respond to, but she isn't obligated to tweet back. I was just trying to help in the specific area of fan questions, so that fans will know that if they want their questions answered by Danielle, they can come to the forum and she does answer them.
4. Building/Maintaining a fanbase--I think she knows that a fanbase is important, which is why she works with the forum. Still, the fans have to accept her for who she is and not wish she was more like someone else. We are fans because she's an amazingly talented performer and a really cool person who is lovely with fans at the stage door and, when she is able, online. She also, to the best of my knowledge, still replies to fan mail herself. Other celebs have a PA to do their fan mail. I think she's done an awesome job keeping up with fans, and as I said she does more than a lot of other performers do.
OK, I don't think I'm going to argue this anymore because it's just going to get to re-hashing the same topics over and over. My point is that I think Dan has done a great job keeping up with her fans. She isn't perfect, but nobody is. I think the fans need to understand that she can't do everything and appreciate what she can do.
Lemming, none of this is personal so I hope you don't take it that way. I know you're a big fan and you just like to hear from her, which is understandable. I'm just trying my best to explain what I think, and that I still think Dan is doing great with her fans. It's not as much as it used to be, but she's busier now and there are other performers who do less.”
I will drink to that!
Dan does a great job, and gets on with her fans really well. Most celebs/performers wouldn't take the effort to talk to fans or answer forum questions. Dan does it brilliantly.
