If this is for the same market as Shortlist, it would be a magazine handed out to commuters.

The over sixties make up a tiny proportion of commuters, at least in London. Most women have retired at that age as well as a lot of men. Many people move out of the cities in their later years, even while they're still working.

Would any advertiser really want to target a group where they represent such a small portion of the audience? I don't believe Stanna Stairlifts usually takes out adverts during X-Factor.

I can confirm Metro reaches the depths of Gloucestershire so ample opportunity for advertisers to reach out in all directions.

But isn't London and commuters the largest market area?

I'm not aware that the Metro is ever found in shops, I've only ever seen it in stations.

If anything its just the opposite. The young people would want to bring it home to their elderly parents and not just throw it away. To be able to get a 'free' present to give away is what everyone wants. For advertisers to be interested they have to be sure you will take it home. If it had what elderly people really wanted to read. I keep on saying to LS and his new partner in business this is what you should be spending your 250k on!

The OP has a fair point - it occured to me last night too.
I suppose the argument would be its not to be distributed to commuters but rather placed in places where oldies go - Post Office, community centres, health clinics, funeral parlours

With trains, boats, planes and buses covering the country there’ll be over 60’s travelling everywhere. A free handout for older people is a great opportunity for advertisers to aim at an older market. Many will be looking for the next opportunity to party and have fun and will have the free time and money to indulge themselves.

I think if it was going to be a freesheet it wold be sent out, not handed out. Wouldn't make sense to hand out for the over 60s market

You don't have to be a peak-time commuter to use the train!!!!

All these guys working the stations can hand out 'Covered' until 10am and free papers for others after that time.

But not called 'Hip Replacement' because that is the sh1ttiest title it's possible to dream up. Idiots...

You could put free copies in dispensers on buses. That's easy to do if you get up early and go to a bus station, and a lot of old people travel by bus because they get free bus passes (and some aren't up to driving).
