that's a nice find as well chris, but £85 quid all in is a stretch too far for me - the money i've got coming in is all i've got. can't really afford to add more to it.

maybe £10-£15 cheaper and i might have been swayed

*edit*

although if i ordered it from china on ebay it would be the same price as i'm prepared to pay for the disgo .. hmmmmmmmmmmm

(typical UK sellers overcharging for it as well...)

*edit 2*

although things like this would worry me ..

Quote:
“International Buyers, Please Note:
a) Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges.
These charges are the buyer's responsibility.
b) Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional
costs will be prior to bidding/buying.”

A 'fingers crossed' international ebay price is £52.
No HDMI though I imagine it also has USB OTG .
Warranties are near worthless when buying abroad.

Personally if I wanted a tablet I'd buy a 7" in that if I wanted a real travel computer I'd buy a netbook instead.

I'd wait and save your money, as others have said. You'll regret buying a cheap tablet, not so much for the screen but for the battery life. I've seen an Eken A001 turned into something more than usable with the right ROM but when you can only use it for a couple of hours between charges AND standby still leeches the battery away at a ridiculous rate AND booting up from completely off takes 5 minutes then you'll never want to use the thing unless it's permanently plugged in.

Get a good one though and you'll wonder how you managed without it. There will be decent 99 quid tablets with 7" screens aplenty by Xmas.

There was little in those reviews to say the one without the HDMI was better, just that at the reviewed price it was considered good value.

A cheap tablet with HDMI plus bth USB OTG and normal SD memory expansion can be quite appealing to many.

i did see this in maplin

http://www.maplin.co.uk/7inch-androi...-tablet-506956

a lot more than i'd like to pay, but android 2.1, g-sensor, open gl support and a hdmi out port amongst other things.

maplin even supply a link for the firmware update as well.

Very true.

A colleague at work has a Disgo 6000 and it is laggy, often unusable and using the the resistive screen is a lottery,

found this ..

http://www.expansys.com/touchpad-tou...7-wifi-209499/

at my local CEX for £72 quid. Got some great reviews on Amazon and the expansys website has details on how to upgrade to 2.2 and install the full market as well.

Listen to what many, including myself, are telling you. Don't spend this sort of money on a tablet. It's a waste.

Read the reviews on that site. Another one to avoid I think.

I do appreciate your input, but I don't want a more expensive tablet. I'm quite happy to buy one at this level with all the limitations it may (or may not) have.

I've read the reviews on Amazon and they are generally positive - apart from a couple that didn't like it.

I'm not saying i'm 100% going to get it at all, but it's probably "on the list" of ones I would consider.

As long as you realise its not a ipad and limited to basic functionality then I don't see a problem. Worst case you don't like, you put it on ebay for £40.

Unfortunately life has gotten in the way and the money needs to go on something else now .. ah well. At least i've got a few ideas for the future.

Better off waiting anyway!

Meantime there's this now at Comet:

http://www.comet.co.uk/p/Tablets/buy...-Tablet/698326

Android 1.6 though. Not sure about mod Rom support. But 8" resistive screen and 3000mAH battery.

Was looking for something that I can,
- Watch videos, mainly in the car for kids
- At least 5 hours battery life
- e-mail, facebook, forum browsing, etc
- ereader, PDF and comic book support
- play games
- kids can use use educational android apps
- Basic web browsing
- At least some level of support for android market
- micro Sd support
- No requirement for 3G but must work with hot spot created by android phone

Ordered one of these,

http://www.chinagrabber.com/16gb-fly...flytouch3.aspx

Worked out around £135 delivered which hopefully will take around a week. Will post a review once I have had a chance to play with it. There are a couple of custom ROMs also available which I might have a play with.

I'm going to push the Vega again (which will start to be my "thing").

£200
10" 1024x600 capacitive screen (not the greatest quality, still good for gaming and video)
HDMI output
NVidia Tegra CPU, same as in the Xoom

Its by far and away the fastest of the cheap tablets, overall performance is on-par with the Xoom and others costing considerably more.

And there are rumours circulating of a possible official honeycomb release on the way .....

only 4GB memory, no free SD slot so add £20 to take it up to a reasonable amount of memory. No GPS, single USB. I assume 3G dongle support ?

As per every all products, it entirely depends on your requirements as to if its suitable and not overpriced for what you want to do.

But it works, has a usable warranty, is a good 4 times faster and there is no possible £50 import duty to pay.

Is your iBex one of those bodged clones with a 16GB SD card inside?

AFAIK its not a clone as apad the designer of the flytouch has the vendor as an office distributor so I am guessing it is legit. As for memory, the original design had two memory slots, in FT3 they converted one to an internal slot so I am not sure were bodged comes from.

If you don't want to rick paying duty they are available for £165 from UK vendors I believe so still £55 cheaper

That is why I wondered if it housed an internal 16GB SDHC card.

It is very common on low budget tablets.
