another idea for the next master

having watched the latest episode of luther, and being a fan of life on mars, i would like to suggest Lee Ingleby as the next master, he always seems to play villains really well.

he was also recently in being human as a villain which he played really well

Thoughts??????

I have always loved John Simms portrayal of the Master so would be happy to see him return.

But I do wish people would stop with this 'Jacobi was the best master ever!' stuff. I've heard it quite a lot and it makes no sense to me. For the majority of Utopia he was playing Prof. Yana. His total screen time as the Master was minimal to put it mildly. Sure, he lit up the screen in that short time and no doubt he probably would have done a good job. But that's all speculation. We never saw him fully inhabit the character or have to carry the full weight of a two episode final, which SImm did brilliantly IMHO.

Yeah, I like that suggestion. Very good idea.

Aidan McArdle would be my choice - I loved him in Garrow's Law

Lee Ingleby is a good shout, looking over his filmography. I'm usually good at spotting people who've been in different things, but had no idea he cropped up so often in shows I love! His latest turn as Wyndham in Being Human was especially creepy.

There is always a chance the Chuckle Brothers might appear as a double act.

I reckon Jacobi could have been close to the best Master ever, if he'd portrayed the role in several stories. Too little screen time in the role to put him near the top of the tree, but I would love to have seen him in a few more stories as the Master... I think Simm brought something different to the role. Bit of a marmite Master - you love him or hate him.

Lee Ingleby is a terrific villain, though I'm struggling to picture him as being someone as complicated as The Master. I believed John Simm's Master was a deranged version of a Time Lord, rather than simply deranged. I'm not 100% whether Ingleby could do the character well.

I reckon Rafe Spall will probably be on the short list for the next Doctor.

When casting the Master you have to take into account who's playing the Doctor - for Matt Smith I think Freddie Fox (last seen in The Shadow Line) would be a pretty good fit, a sort of suave dandy to contrast with Matt's geeky boffin (same age group as well, roughly speaking). Can do sinister quite well as seen in The Shadow Line and last week's Marple.
